🧡 Just taking a moment to appreciate our new scentwork pipes from Snifz Scentwork Equipment and of course two of the real bosses of DON DOG LTD; Willow and Ada who were doing a bit of scent ID. 😍

Unlike Ada, Willow hasn't done much work on pipes before, but she worked the line-up beautifully and methodically.

It was great to test out the pipes again and we will be looking forward to using them in our UK Sniffer Dogs classes and Scent Club.

🧡 Even as a trainer, I have always vowed to remain a student. Learning has always been something I’m passionate about, and for me, that means not only reading books and expanding my knowledge independently, but also learning from other trainers who inspire and challenge me to grow.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of spending time with many talented trainers, and it’s fair to say that some have become firm favourites. Today, I took my drugs detection dog, Willow, to see Jazz at Ergonomic Dogs for some continuation training (CT).

Jazz is certainly no stranger to us. In fact, I’ve known her for several years, first meeting her when we took one of our now GP dogs for a working dog assessment. I still remember telling Gareth in the car on the way there just how excited I was to meet her—I was absolutely fangirling! 🤣

More recently, Jazz has played a huge role in supporting both me and Willow on our operational drugs detection journey. She’s always there when I’m having a wobble (yes, trainers have wobbles too!), and she has an incredible ability to help me work through challenges and find solutions. Her knowledge is second to none, and I know that whenever I need guidance, support, or a fresh perspective, she’ll be there for both me and the dogs. 🧡

Every opportunity I have to train with Jazz, spend time in her company, and watch her work with dogs makes me a better trainer. It broadens my knowledge, strengthens my skill set, and builds my confidence. She's also really good at giving me a kick up the ar$e when I need it. 🤣 (In a good way!) 😅

A huge thank you to Jazz at Ergonomic Dogs for a fantastic morning, yet again! I’ll be practising what I preach and getting on with my homework!

🧡 A little while back, we had the pleasure of meeting some fellow scentwork enthusiasts on one of our courses, where they shared details of their exciting new business venture.

Their goal was to design training equipment that was robust, durable and professional in appearance whilst also offering customisation to reflect individual company branding. 🤩
Most importantly they wanted products that would perform exceptionally well for scent detection training with both pet and working dogs. 👌

Their passion, dedication and commitment to creating something special were evident from the offset. 💕 Equally impressive was their focus on keeping the equipment affordable and accessible for professional trainers and pet dog owners alike. 🐾

We were super excited to try their products and delighted to support them wherever we could; subsequently, we have since been trialling their products in our own training sessions. 😊

Today we put our new scent detection pipes to use during a scent identification session with both Ada and Willow; our operational drugs detection dog. 🧡

The pipes have been fantastic to work with!

They are easy clean- whoop whoop! 🥳
Lightweight enough to transport when setting up training exercises, yet sturdy enough to withstand energetic dogs working around them.
The size is ideal and they look incredibly professional too!

We opted for black and orange to match our brand colours and had them personalised with our company name giving them a smart and distinctive finish. Snazzy eh!? 😎🤩😍

We will continue to work with products from Snifz and look forward to sharing more of their products with you over the coming months.

🧡 Today we had an impromptu Neutrality & Obedience session for some of our regulars...
It was a small class, but it allowed myself & Gareth to spend more time with clients individually.

We focused on the individual needs of the dogs in attendance:

Some dogs worked on their loose-lead walking skills.

One dog worked on neutrality around other male dogs.

Another dog worked on engagement and obedience skills around distractions.

And finally, but by no means least, another dog worked on their scentwork skills around the distractions of other dogs in fairly close proximity. Scentwork is great for reactive dogs as it gives them a job to focus on! 👌

All in all, it was a great session and the rain held off for much of it, which was an added bonus!

The only downside was that I was so invested in the training- I didn't take many pictures! 🙈

Looking forward to next week folks - It's a full house again next week! 😅😊💪

We've trained Border Terriers, Rottweilers, Giant Schnauzers, Mini Schnauzers, a West Siberian Laika, German Shepherds, Belgian Malinois, Lurchers, a Eurasian dog, Border Collies, a Saluki, Golden Retrievers, Romanian rescues, labradoodles, and of course lots of Labradors and Spaniels!

🧡 On completion of the course, you will be able to continue your scent detection journey at our Scent Club, where you can further develop your dog's skills and yours as a handler.

🥳 A huge well done to these three teams for completing their UK Sniffer Dogs Beginners course. 🥳🧡

We had such a great four weeks learning about scent ID, searching and indication.

The dogs carried out line up searches, bag searches, chair searches, novel environment searches and vehicle searches! 😅

Looking forward to seeing their scent detection journey progress.
