These are dangerously high temperatures for rabbits and guinea pigs. I can’t stress enough how important it is to protect them from this heat. Wooden hutches heat up quickly and retain the heat, making it difficult for your animals to keep cool. Bringing them inside would help protect them from the hottest parts of the day, frozen water bottles, tiles that have been in the fridge and lots of fresh drinking water will help keep them cooler.
Heatstroke will take hold quickly in this weather get to know the signs:

πŸ”΄ Rapid or heavy breathing
πŸ”΄ Panting or open mouth breathing
πŸ”΄ Drooling or wetness around the mouth
πŸ”΄ Hot ears (rabbits) or unusually warm body
πŸ”΄ Lethargy or weakness
πŸ”΄ Reluctance to move
πŸ”΄ Lying stretched out and unresponsive
πŸ”΄ Loss of appetite
πŸ”΄ Wobbling, stumbling, or loss of balance
πŸ”΄ Seizures or collapse

All of these signs are need urgent veterinary treatment. Please keep safe ❀️

It's expected to be very hot in the UK over the next week. Guineas don't cope with heat well and they are unable to sweat to cool themselves which means they are at high risk of heatstroke.
For outdoor kept guineas hutches can get incredibly hot inside and precautions will need to be taken. A small temporary indoor cage is better than heatstroke.
If your guineas show any signs of heatstroke, even mild symptoms, such as drooling, lethargy, struggling to breathe, panting or seizures they need to see a vet urgently.
All UK vet practices have to have out of hours vet cover, this might not be at your usual practice, as it's a bank holiday weekend most practices will be closed and cover will go the out of hours practice.
Immediate first aid cooling methods should be used whilst you're on the way to a vet.
β˜€οΈ Move guinea to a cool place
β˜€οΈ Cover guinea with damp towels if unresponsive, if guinea is able to move they can be stood in shallow water to cover their feet and cool water applied to the back of the ears.
β˜€οΈ Do not submerge guinea in cold water
β˜€οΈ If guinea is unresponsive do not try to syringe anything as they are at risk of aspiration.

I’d like to thank everyone who dropped in for our last nail trimming clinic. We were raising funds to help the 200 plus guinea pigs recently rescued in a massive rescue operation in Wales.
We hope the £95 raised helps with the ongoing care they need 🐹🐹

πŸ«–πŸ’— Tea pots everywhere!

One question we've been asked a lot is why our launches can take a little while to prepare.

The answer is sitting right here. πŸ‘€

Every single pink Tea Pot bed is handmade by us before launch. Rather than making them after orders come in, we prefer to build up stock beforehand. It means we can ship orders much more quickly once launch day arrives and spend more time packing happy mail instead of sewing to catch up.

At the moment we're busy sewing beds, building stock, carrying out quality checks, and waiting for the final pieces of the collection to arrive.

We're launching the Chonky Piggie Club collection from Toffee Apple Studio alongside our pink Tea Pot collection from Toffee Apple Pets, so we're taking the time to make sure every piece is exactly how we imagined it before announcing a launch date. πŸ’—

There are still a few finishing touches on the way, including some of the stickers, but seeing these teapot beds stacked up makes everything feel very real.

The good news is that we're getting closer every day. ✨

Who else is excited to see the full collection finally come together? πŸ«–πŸΉπŸ’—

All of the money from our next nail trimming clinic will be going towards the care and treatment of the guinea pigs recently rescued from dreadful conditions. I can’t imagine what life these piggies had, they are all safe now thanks to the incredible hard work and dedication from several rescues. There is a link if you wish to donate to this particular charity that has helped out.
Teamwork made the dream work 🐹
