These are dangerously high temperatures for rabbits and guinea pigs. I canβt stress enough how important it is to protect them from this heat. Wooden hutches heat up quickly and retain the heat, making it difficult for your animals to keep cool. Bringing them inside would help protect them from the hottest parts of the day, frozen water bottles, tiles that have been in the fridge and lots of fresh drinking water will help keep them cooler.
Heatstroke will take hold quickly in this weather get to know the signs:
π΄ Rapid or heavy breathing
π΄ Panting or open mouth breathing
π΄ Drooling or wetness around the mouth
π΄ Hot ears (rabbits) or unusually warm body
π΄ Lethargy or weakness
π΄ Reluctance to move
π΄ Lying stretched out and unresponsive
π΄ Loss of appetite
π΄ Wobbling, stumbling, or loss of balance
π΄ Seizures or collapse
