Poor Hugo!!!

He asked me to post this to let everyone know that Laura is back grooming!!

He is tired of Laura grooming and brushing him, and he wants her working on other doggies so he can get a break.

He’s basically said I have been lacking and not let people know she’s back to work or posted about it in enough places!!

So this is me letting people know we have availability for grooming, please get in touch if your dog is in need of a spruce up and spare Hugo the pain of being a groomers dog!!!

I had a random conversation the other day in the shop about bowl cleaning, and I realised the person I was talking too didn't clean their dogs water bowl every day like they did the feeding bowl!!!

Here are 5 reasons to clean both your dog's bowls daily:
1. Prevents Harmful Bacteria Growth:
Food residue and moisture in your dog's bowl create an ideal breeding ground for bacteria like Salmonella, E. coli, and Listeria, which can cause serious illness and digestive problems in your dog.

2. Reduces the Risk of Mold and Mycotoxins:
Leftover food and moisture can lead to mold growth, especially in water bowls, which can produce mycotoxins that are harmful if ingested by your dog.

3. Discourages Pests:
Dirty food and water bowls can attract unwanted pests such as ants, flies, and rodents. These pests can further contaminate the food and water, posing a health risk to your dog.

4. Eliminates Biofilm:
A slimy layer called biofilm forms when bacteria, food oils, and saliva combine. This biofilm is hard to remove by licking alone and can harbor dangerous bacteria, making the bowls a constant source of germs.

5. Ensures Better Overall Health & Hygiene:
A clean feeding environment is crucial for your dog's well-being. Daily cleaning prevents cross-contamination, supports better oral health, and reduces the chances of your dog getting sick from eating from an unsanitary bowl.

Hot soapy water is your dogs bowls friend, don't be shy with the washing!!!

I had this recently...Well if it has chicken in it quite a lot of harm actually!!

We are super vigilant with Hugo but even now treats slip through the net, you need eyes in the back of your head or a sixth sense!!!

Either people do not take his allergy seriously enough and think you are exaggerating even after being told or your in a shop/ out and about, you turn your back for a second and a kind soul gives him a treat (no one can resist the eyes!!)

It may seem like you are being kind but, if you do not check with the owner before you hand over treats you could be causing serious issues for a dog.

For a range of treats that are natural, healthy, single source protein and tasty, come give us a visit...We are the best doghouse to be in!!

This lovely little monster is our Bedlington Terrier Hugo.

He is the reason we started The Doghouse Kendal, this is our journey to natural treats!!

When he was about 2 years old he started having issues.

It started with his a**l glands needing emptying more than usual. His stools became very loose all the time and it got to the point where he was going to the vets every 2 weeks as he was scooting and chewing his paws. His ears also started to act up, they were constantly itching, ye**ty smelling and the amount of cleaning required was daily and a lot of trauma for our poor boy. When the vet started talking about having to consider an op to remove his glands we knew we had to do something.

We started with every allergy test under the sun and it was quite expensive...only for every test to come back negative!!

So the next step was to do a food test, feeding just single source food until you find any ones they cannot tolerate. This is expensive, is a lot of work, requires eyes in the back of your head, the will of iron and the patience of a saint!!!

The end result is that we found Hugo is allergic to Chicken, and as every dog owner knows chicken stock is the base for pretty much every dog food ever both wet and dry, even is its not a chicken flavoured product they use chicken stock as a base!!

This has resulted in us feeding him natural treats and only certain foods as they are what they say they are.

It has been lots of trial and error, and still some chicken gets through the gap at times, but it has made a world of difference to his wellbeing, overall health and our sanity.

If you have any question or issues with your dog, get in touch and see if natural treats could help you too.

We love us some natural treats in our doghouse, they have made a huge difference to Hugo with his chicken allergy.

But we want to know...what do you want to know about them????

Do you want to know which treats would help a specific issue for your dog?
Do you want general info on the benefits of specific treats?
Do you want to know what to avoid for specific issues?
Do you want info on feeding guides, what's low fat etc??

We need your input so we are not talking rubbish your not interested in!!!!

Let us know in the comments, any thoughts/ help or advise would be greatly appreciated.

Looking forward to hearing from you. 🐾🐾

This weather is great and if you have an active dog or one who is not a big drinker like Hugo then providing additional hydration is very important. Goats milk by Fettle has a number of huge benefits, here are a few:

* Goats milk helps regulate body temperature and prevent dehydration, making it perfect for hot days and active pets.

* It is rich, creamy and packed with flavour that pets love. use it as a tasty meal topper, sprinkle it directly onto food, or reconstitute it into a delicious drink. you can even bake with it or create frozen treats.

* Gentle on digestion due to smaller fat globules and unique protein structure make it easier to digest than cow's milk, reducing the risk of diarrhoea, gas and bloating. This helps your pet absorb nutrients more efficiently, promoting overall well-being.

* Goat's milk helps reduce inflammation naturally, thanks to its healthy fats, vitamins and minerals. These nutrients ease pain and swelling from joint issues like arthritis. Plus, it’s great for active dogs, aiding muscle recovery and soothing inflammation after exercise.

So a couple of times a week give them a treat, switch up the water routine and give goats milk a try.
