Nismo is a senior cat who quickly gets very anxious and stressed during grooming.
Comfort is prioritised as he can not safely tolerate a full grooming session.
With lots of breaks, he managed to get the mats clipped out, a quick hygiene trim and comb through, and most of his claws clipped.
Due to the risk to their health, cats can not be pushed through very high levels of stress so when Nismo showed us he was done, we were done. Even if that meant he went home with one long unclipped claw!

He enjoyed a good roll in catnip before he left on his car journey home 😻

Heather is a beautiful 17 year old kitty that had to have the back end of her fur clipped off 4 months ago due to widespread matting.
Her lovely owners have had her regularly groomed since then and look at her gorgeous, mat free coat now ✨😻

So for anyone who has had to get their fur baby a haircut due to matting…..fluffy and healthy fur is possible with some patience and tlc 💖

Matting… what lies beneath?!

Matted fur not only causes pain and discomfort, it can hide what’s happening underneath

When matting is clipped out, the skin is exposed and a variety of horrors may be found lurking 👀

🔷Dry, flaky or dandruff-covered skin
🔷 Redness and irritation
🔷 Scabs, sores and small wounds
🔷 Flea dirt or live fleas
🔷 Bruising
🔷 Ticks

And much more! …

Sometimes, the skin will recover by itself once the matting is removed, or can be easily treated. Occasionally vet treatment is needed to help your kitty return to full health.

Short hair cats get matted too…
Although shorter hair cats are often considered lower maintenance than our long haired friends, they still need regular brushing to help them shed any excess undercoat.
If the undercoat builds up, it becomes impacted and can lead to matting .
Sometimes this can be brushed and combed out but if it becomes tight and widespread, the kindest way to remove it is by shaving.

Millie had a bolero clip to reset her coat and was as good as gold 🌟😻
