🌍🐍 Happy World Snake Day! 🐍🌍
To celebrate, here are a couple of our favourite snake facts that might just surprise you:
🔍 No eyelids?!
That’s right—snakes can’t blink! Instead, they have a special clear scale that covers and protects their eyes like built-in goggles.
👅 They smell with their tongues
When you see a snake flicking its tongue, it’s actually collecting scent particles and sending them to a special organ (called the Jacobson’s organ) in the roof of its mouth. Nature’s version of a scent radar!
At Snakes Alive, you can meet our amazing snakes up close at events, parties, school visits, group sessions, and workshops. 🐍✨
💬 Got a fun snake fact of your own? Share it in the comments—we’d love to hear it!

Snakes Alive was set up in 1996 and was one of first companies offering interactive childrens parties with a variety of reptiles. The company was originally run by Glenn Cousins and his wife Maureen. In 2009 father and son team Daniel & Peter Hepplewhite took over from Glenn & Maureen to continue growing and improving the services offered by snakes alive.
Daniel & Peter have over 30 years of knowledge caring for a variety of reptiles, amphibians, arachnids, insects, birds, parrots, small mammals and other exotics. Their expertise enables them to deliver quality services and advice and offer the best experience with fully trained, knowledgable staff. Daniel’s fiance Becca Commons has now joined snakes alive fulltime and offers even more expertise to the team. Becca completed her Level 3 Animal Managment course and then spent 5 years working on a petting farm with a wide variety of exotic animals and livestock. Becca gave public talks and demostration during the day to the public as well as looking after the animals which mainly took place when the farmpark was closed, Becca was also a party host.
