Exploring today! Olive and Rubes loved paddling and Olive was super happy to find something stinky to roll in! She wasn't quite as thrilled about the lovely lavender shampoo back at the van 🥹😆🐾❤️

DON’T FORCE ME TO BE SOCIAL!

It may be really disappointing or frustrating when our dogs are not the social beings we expected them to be.

Many people assume dogs should just naturally get along with other dogs, after all they’re the same species.

Some believe the “unsociable” dog has a behaviour problem that needs to be “fixed”.

Early, appropriately timed and proper socialisation is really important, but sometimes despite all of this, some dogs are just not that sociable or socially selective to varying degrees.

Sometimes this can be improved, especially if the cause is from a negative experience, but genetics, breed tendencies, individual personalities, health and age all contribute to tolerance and sociability, which also change throughout a dog’s lifetime.

If we, as a human species, don’t get along with everyone we meet, how can we expect our dogs to?

Do we label or try to fix every person that has an argument; doesn’t make friends with everyone they meet, dislikes some people, or just prefers not to be social as having a problem that needs to be fixed?

Why is it so easy to accept that every individual person is different than to accept that every individual dog is different?

When we have done what we can to improve our dogs’ social skills, we need to accept and acknowledge our dogs for the individuals they are, allow and respect their choice of whether to be sociable or not and never force interactions that dogs are not comfortable with.

Monday's fun! Apologies as I was utterly rubbish at taking pics and videos yesterday. Now that the ground is wetter, I am concentrating more on remaining upright 🫣😆
We met the very cute Reggie yesterday. Caroline Nutman of Paws and Moors Ilkley is blessed with Reggie walks 😍 he says "Hi!" 👋

Whoops! Nearly forgot Friday's fun! Just a short pootle at Scalebor and then a lovely stroll along the river. Olive makes me giggle... she loves it when we go to the river. She always does her excited little tippytoe dance when she realises where we are when she gets out of the van 🥰🐾❤️

Thursday was an epic adventure for the little legs and the hobbly legs! Princess Polly went further than ever! All 3 lil goblins were loving life! Polly needed to hitch a ride with her Auntie Libby by the end (The Memma was rather jealous and wished she could have at least had a piggy back for some of the way 🤣). Star was in her element- full squirrel mode was activated. All the goblins and the Memma were firmly practising the art of being sofabears for the rest of the day. Star had enough energy left for the attempted squeakectomy of a pink unicorn 🤣🐾❤️

The lil goblins were super adventurous today and all 3 decided they wanted to come out for the 2nd walk! Go Princess Polly! They were intrepid explorers.
Also uber impressive was the fact that Olive found a ball, near to the end of our last walk... I thought it would be another stand off as usual... but no! She was the goodest girl and came after only maybe a couple of minutes of waiting which is AMAZING for O with a ball! A MASSIVE well done to Olive and her mum and dad. They have clearly been working hard together on training 😍🏆 Roobles had a grand old time rolling in stinky stuff! 🐾❤️

Tuesday's fun at Washburn Valley. Dog walker Paul came to help me out today. Lots of fun had in the river for Olive and Roobles and the chihuahuas enjoyed pootling, sniffing and rolling - Toscar even soaked up something delightful before Olive could get a look in 🤣 🐾❤️
