☀️🐾 It's going to get hot, far too hot for dogs 🔥
A hot spell is on the way, and it’s so important to be mindful that warm weather can be dangerous, even a killer for dogs!
💔 Dogs can suffer from heatstroke in just minutes
🐕🦺 They can't cool down like humans—panting isn’t enough
🌡️ Even 20°C can be too warm for intense exercise
To those who say "dogs in hot countries manage just fine"—UK dogs aren’t acclimatised to sudden heatwaves. They’re at higher risk because their bodies haven’t had time to adapt.
🚨 At-Risk Dogs Include:
🔸 Flat-faced breeds (like Pugs, Bulldogs, Frenchies)
🔸 Puppies and senior dogs
🔸 Overweight dogs
🔸 Dogs with thick or unkempt coats, or existing health problems
How to keep them safe:
✅ Walk early or late when it's cooler. If you can't exercise them at cooler times, don't.
✅ Bring plenty of water. It takes a lot more than you think to cool down a dog suffering from heatstroke.
✅ Stick to shady routes
✅ Know the signs of heatstroke: excessive panting, drooling, unsteadiness, confusion, or vomiting. These can appear suddenly—and may come too late.
🔥 Paw Check:
Hold the back of your hand to the pavement for 5 seconds. Too hot for you? Too hot for their paws.
The weather in the UK when it's hot is often very humid. High humidity makes it even harder for dog's to cool down. Please be careful, your dog is highly unlikely to turn down a walk even if it is far too hot for them.
❗When in doubt—skip the walk.
No dog has ever died from missing one walk. But walking them in the heat could be deadly.
Keep it cool. Keep them safe. 🐾💧
