Hot weather can be dangerous for rabbits, and they rely on us to keep them safe.🐇🐇🐇🐇
Rabbits canʼt regulate their temperature well or tell us when they are struggling, and heatstroke can develop quickly and become life-threatening.
Here are some simple ways to help your rabbit stay cool and comfortable during a heatwave.
- Improve ventilation
- Provide shaded areas
- Lots of cool fresh water regularly refreshed
- Water rich fruit and veg such as cucumber ( but not too much as you could cause Diarrhoea)
- Cage fans
- DIY Ice bottles or icepods for them to lay against
- Ceramic or slate tiles
- Lightly dampen your rabbit's ears with a cool, wet cloth or gently mist them with a spray bottle. Rabbits regulate their body temperature almost entirely through their large ears
- Regular grooming and checks for flystrike.
-If your indoors is cooler than outside, then you may be better to temporarily bring them indoors during hot spells.

It’s grass seed season! These barbed seeds easily attach to fur and can burrow into the skin, causing pain and infection.

Here are some prevention tips:
Avoid areas with long grass during summer.
Trim coats, especially around feet, ears, and between toes – particularly important for breeds like spaniels.
After walks, check your dog thoroughly and remove any visible seeds.

Did you know? Human sun cream is toxic to our pets, however unprotected continued exposure to the sun can lead to skin cancer.

Don’t worry though, pet safe sun cream is available to protect your pets from sunburn. 😎🌞

On sunny days( if your pet is spending time outside), we would recommend applying pet safe sun cream to any parts of your pet that has pink skin showing particularly ensuring application to vulnerable areas like ear tips, noses, and bellies - black and white or fully white cats are a prime example especially those with white ears!
