🌾 Drought support: £2,000 grants for farming households

The dry weather has brought extra worries and costs for many farming families. If you’re feeling the financial strain, RABI’s Emergency Drought Grant could help.

Eligible farm owners and tenant farmers can apply for £2,000 towards personal and household living costs. Your principal farming business must be in an officially designated drought area, and eligibility criteria apply. This funding cannot be used for farm or business expenses.

📅 South West applications open at midday on Monday 7 September, with the application window running until 11 September. Funding is limited and may run out sooner, so check what you’ll need now.

Please share with friends and neighbours who may benefit — a little signposting could make a big difference. 💚

🐑 Caring for sheep affected by bluetongue

In this video, we share some practical ways you can help keep affected sheep as comfortable as possible:

💧 Provide plenty of clean water close at hand
🌾 Offer soft, easy-to-eat forage, such as soft hay, haylage or silage
🥣 Consider soaking hay or sheep cake to make it easier to eat
🛏️ Provide a deeply bedded area, as sore feet may mean sheep spend more time lying down
👀 Monitor them closely for any changes

Sheep affected by bluetongue can have painful mouths and may be reluctant to eat or drink, even when food and water are available. Small adjustments can make a real difference to their comfort and recovery.

These measures are supportive and do not replace veterinary care. If you are concerned about any of your sheep, please contact the practice for advice.
