Welcome to our new Registered Veterinary Nurse, Lynsey! ๐Ÿ’š

Lynsey joined our Henlow vets family in April. She first started working with animals over 20 years ago after completing a National Diploma in Animal Care. Alongside this, she worked in a pet shop for work experience, where she discovered her love for veterinary nursing after finding her first job in a veterinary practice.

Lynsey qualified as a Registered Veterinary Nurse in 2009 and has since gone on to gain a nursing certificate in anaesthesia and analgesia โ€” an area she is especially passionate about ๐Ÿฉบโœจ

Outside of work, Lynsey enjoys spending time with her family, including her husband and two daughters, who keep her very busy! Their family pets include Angel, their 7-year-old cat, and Tortie, their 14-year-old Horsfield tortoise ๐Ÿฑ๐Ÿข

Meet handsome Hooper ๐Ÿ’œ

It was his first visit to us for his registration check โ€” and he made himself completely at home in the consult room! ๐Ÿพ

Safe to say he was super chilled for his first visit, relaxing on the chair with his little legs hanging off the edge ๐Ÿ˜†

Oh Hooperโ€ฆ totally adorable ๐Ÿ™ˆ

Beautiful Ingrid and Malory in for their 6-monthly check with our lovely nurse Hannah. ๐Ÿ’•

Whenever Malory visits our cat consulting room, she heads straight for the cat shelves โ€” and this time she really made herself at home! ๐Ÿฅน

Please take extra care when walking your dogsโ€ฆ

Grass seeds are sharp and barbed and can tract quite far!โ€ฆ including in between toes, up noses and in ears! Sometimes the vet is able to remove consciously with forceps but as it can be uncomfortable a sedation is often required.

Some signs of a grass seed injury include: head shaking/scratching, sneezing/irritation, licking feet/swelling between toesโ€ฆ

To reduce the risk of your dog picking up a grass seed injury there are a few things you can do:

๐ŸŒพAvoid areas with long, dry grass

๐ŸŒพWalk on playing fields (where allowed) as these are mowed, preventing grasses seeding

๐ŸŒพCheck your dogs after every walk- especially in between toes!

๐ŸŒพHave long haired dogs groomed shorter than normal, particularly around feet and ears

๐ŸŒพUse a soft brush to groom after a walk. Dogs love this and itโ€™s a great time if they are usually a bit wriggly!

Adorable kitten Mabel during her first visit to us for her vaccination following her registration check. ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ–ค

We loved how she happily sat on the side in the consult room, grooming herself and taking in the world around her โ€” a moment far too cute to miss! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ“ธ

Remember little Mabel!? ๐Ÿ˜โ™ฅ๏ธ
Here she is now, one month later, in for the final part of her vaccination course.

Such a beautiful girl โ€” and growing so well! ๐Ÿพ

We recommend vaccinations to help protect dogs against distemper, hepatitis, parvovirus, and 4 strains of leptospirosis.

๐Ÿ’‰ Our puppy vaccination course includes:

โ€ข 1st vaccination โ€” DHP + L4
โ€ข 2nd vaccination โ€” DHP
(2 weeks later, from 10 weeks of age)
โ€ข 3rd vaccination โ€” L4
(2 weeks later / 4 weeks after the first vaccination)

This can either be completed over the 3 visits above, or over 2 visits 4 weeks apart.

So why do we often recommend spreading it over 3 visits?
Puppies can usually start going outside a week earlier after their 2nd DHP vaccination (avoiding standing water, wildlife areas, and staying on a lead) ๐Ÿฆฎ

Any questions please do speak to us ๐Ÿค—
