🐾 Advancing Our Endoscopy Services 🔬
We’ve been using endoscopy technology for some time, and we’re delighted to have recently invested in more advanced bronchoscopes to further improve the care and services we can offer our patients. 🐶🐱
This investment has also given our clinical team a fantastic opportunity to undertake practical training with our endoscopy equipment, helping us develop our skills, maintain high standards, and make the most of these advanced technologies in veterinary care.
🔬 What is Endoscopy?
Endoscopy is a minimally invasive way of examining the inside of the body using a specialised camera called an endoscope.
Procedures such as gastroscopy, bronchoscopy, colonoscopy and rhinoscopy allow our vets to see internal structures in real time, helping us investigate symptoms, make diagnoses and, in some cases, provide treatment during the same procedure.
🌟 Key Benefits of Endoscopy
• Minimally invasive: Endoscopes are usually introduced through natural body openings, meaning there is often no need for large surgical incisions.
• Detailed, real-time images: Modern endoscopes provide clear, high-resolution images that help our vets identify abnormalities such as inflammation, ulcers, narrowing, bleeding or suspicious growths.
• Diagnosis and treatment in one procedure: Where appropriate, tiny instruments can be passed through the endoscope to take biopsies, retrieve foreign bodies, control bleeding or remove certain abnormal tissue.
• Less invasive recovery: Because endoscopy is less invasive than many traditional surgical procedures, recovery can often be quicker and more comfortable for our patients.
🐾 Gastroscopy
A gastroscopy (upper gastrointestinal endoscopy) allows our vets to examine the oesophagus, stomach and first part of the small intestine (duodenum).
It can be particularly useful when investigating problems such as chronic vomiting, diarrhoea, regurgitation or abdominal discomfort.
During the procedure, we can take biopsies for further investigation and, where appropriate, retrieve foreign bodies without the need for more invasive surgery.
🫁 Bronchoscopy
A bronchoscopy allows our vets to examine the airways and obtain detailed information about the respiratory tract.
It can be useful when investigating persistent coughing, breathing difficulties, recurrent respiratory infections or suspected airway abnormalities or blockages.
Bronchoscopy can also allow us to collect tissue or fluid samples for further testing and, where appropriate, retrieve foreign material or remove certain obstructions.

Colonoscopy – examination of the large bowel.
Rhinoscopy – examination of the nasal passages.
Cystoscopy - examination of the urethra and bladder (bi***es only)
