Monday and Tuesday we are due to have extreme heat don't risk it. The heat starts before 9am and does not finish until late into the evening. If you can't get them out before the heat I promise your dog will be fine without a walk for a few days.
SAYING IT LOUDER FOR THOSE IN THE BACK 🐾
Right, we've had our warning....Amber alert for extreme heat ⚠️
Next weeks weather forecast is looking diabolical for our dogs. Even overnight temperatures aren't dropping below the high teens.
This isn't just "uncomfortable" weather, or a "he should be ok" situation. This is a "there is absolute genuine risk to your dogs life" weather.
PLEASE just leave your dogs at home durin the day. Currently, it looks like the safer times are between 10pm and 6am for walking. If your dog is up to it.
Higher risks are,
🐾 Brachy/flat faced breeds
🐾 Puppies
🐾 Veteran dogs
🐾 Overweight dogs
🐾 Dogs with existing breathing issue
I know there will be some knobheads still out walking in the middle of the day, in the sun, with their dog panting away all because they can't be bothered to deal with a bit of fizzy behaviour from their dog. And I just hope their dogs survive their owners ignorance🤞
Don't forget though, some people don't have gardens and need to do toilet runs. I'd advise dousing dogs in cool water and take a large water bottle out with you to water the ground before dogs walk on it if you have to go over any pavement/road to get to a grassy spot. Toilet as quick as possible and get back inside 👍
Signs of struggle...
🐕 Your dogs tongue spreading at the end, like a spoon, is a sign they are having to work harder to cool down.
🐕 Mouth very wide open and tongue out either side of the mouth is a sign they're having to work harder to get oxygen into their system.
And just to make this the most morbid post....Yes, a dog will run themselves to death. Just because your dog appears to be having fun chasing a ball you keep throwing, or running around with another dog, does not mean they are coping with the heat. It is your responsibility, as their owner, to make sure they don't overheat to the point of collapse.
CARS......I will hold on to hope that even the most oblivious, ignorant, selfish, and down right stupidest of owners know that no dogs should be left in a car (without the A/C on full and for a very good reason), for any period. Even "for 5 minutes" or "with the windows open a bit" 🤦🏼♀️
Feel free to share far and wide to help get this out 👍
