☀️Happy Friday everyone ☀️

We would like to share Harveys story with you all
🐶 🪨.

Poor Harvey was brought to our Horden surgery after his owner noticed him feeling very out of sorts, not eating, lethargic and struggling to pass urine.

X-rays soon showed the problem was caused by 3 bladder stones. Two of the stones were within the bladder itself however 1 problematic stone had unfortunately passed into the urethra causing an obstruction so Harvey couldn’t empty his bladder 😫.

These stones can form for multiple reasons such as abnormal pH levels in the urine, dietary factors, UTIs and some breeds are genetically predisposed to having them.

Thankfully prior to surgery we were able to gently flush the problem stone back into the bladder to relieve the blockage.

All three stones were then removed surgically via cystotomy. Within hours after having surgery Harvey was up and walking around and enjoying his chicken ☺️.

After routine post operative checks we are very pleased to say is now recovering well and back to his usual self ❤️.

Danny is running the Great North Run… in a 10kg rhino suit! 🏃‍♂️🦏

Yes, you read that right! Danny, one of our amazing Vets, is taking on this challenge to raise awareness for rhino conservation and support Save the Rhino, a charity dedicated to fighting poaching.

Growing up in South Africa, Danny saw firsthand how devastating the illegal horn trade is - 420 rhinos were poached just last year alone. Now, he’s determined to do his part by running 13.1 miles in a hot, heavy, and vision-limiting rhino costume!

To make it even more exciting, he’s also attempting to break a world record for the fastest half marathon in an animal suit! 💪🏼🎯

Let’s help Danny make a difference! Support his mission here: https://bit.ly/3XAtDM2 💙

Did you know that keeping your dogs on a lead, especially during lambing season, can make a big difference?

Sheep worrying isn't just a minor inconvenience; it poses a serious threat to livelihoods and animal welfare. When dogs chase, attack, or stress out sheep, it can lead to devastating consequences. Pregnant ewes and their unborn and newborn lambs are particularly vulnerable, and even a brief moment of freedom for an unleashed dog can result in serious injury or death.

As responsible dog owners, it's important to recognise the impact our pets can have on rural communities. By keeping our dogs on a lead near fields with livestock, we not only comply with legal obligations but also show respect for farmers and the animals they care for.

By taking simple steps like keeping our dogs on a lead, we can help ensure the safety of our countryside for all.
