Weather warnings HEAT
With this weather being so intense (and let’s be honest… we’re all struggling a bit 🥵), it’s really important to remember our pets feel it too 💛 (this was written specifically for cats but applies equally well to dogs)
So here are a few simple reminders:
💧 COOL WATER ACCESS Make sure there are multiple bowls available and top them up often. Toss in an ice cube or two to help keep things extra cool ❄️
🌴 SHADED, SAFE SPACE Indoors: keep curtains closed and fans running Outdoors: create shade with cardboard shelters, umbrellas, or tucked-away cool corners
🌅 AVOID MIDDAY HEAT Try to keep outdoor time to early mornings or later evenings when it’s less intense
🧊 COOLING OPTIONS Cooling mats in their favourite spots are great! Damp towels or even frozen water bottles wrapped in a towel work just as well 👍
🪮 GROOMING MATTERS Regular brushing helps remove excess fur and keeps them a bit cooler
🚫🔥 WATCH HOT ROOMS Avoid shutting them in places like conservatories, lofts, or sun traps — these heat up fast
🥣💦 KEEP HYDRATED Wet food can really help with hydration. You can also add a small splash of water to meals
🐾 GENERAL CARE & WARNING SIGNS
Pavements: if it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws
Sunscreen can help pale cats (don’t forget ears & noses ☀️)
Watch for heatstroke signs: panting, drooling, lethargy, wobbling, vomiting ⚠️ 👉 If you’re worried at all, contact a vet
Stay cool, look out for each other (and your furry mates 🐶🐱), and take it easy in the heat 💛
