Happiest post!!!

Pepper (was Oscar) was adopted from us in 2020. Sadly he went missing without a trace from his new home. That was until a few months ago. It turns out an elderly gentleman had taken him. When the man passed away, his niece took Pepper on and cared for him for a couple of years. During the time the man and his niece had him, they didn’t take him to a vets or get him checked for a microchip. If they had of done, he could have been reunited with his owner sooner. Recently, he seemed under the weather so the niece took him to the vets who scanned his chip and contacted us (we stay on all microchips as a safety net). Pepper is now back with his original owner having had his restart vaccination course.

Obviously the lady who had him from her uncle is upset to have lost the cat but he was never her cat in the first place and had she provided routine vet work such as vaccinations in the time that she had him, she would have found this out sooner rather than later. He is also came back into rescue incredibly overweight at a whopping 6.5kg!

It’s safe to say his original owner is over the moon to have him back, as are her children!

This is yet another other example of why you should not just take a cat off the streets without getting them checked for a microchip and a prime example of maintaining routine vet work such as vaccines.

Update on last nights kittens.
We think they are more like 3-4 weeks old rather than the 2 weeks we were told by finder. They are just incredibly small.

This afternoon, they have had a much needed bath now they have all warmed up and have full tummies. 2 are latching and taking a bottle really well, 2 are hit and miss and 2 are being tube fed.

The water had to be changed multiple tomes as was absolutely disgusting. The amount of fleas and flea dirt was horrific (as you can see in these pics). All kittens were this bad.

They have now gone off to a veterinary nurse who has kindly given us her weeks annual leave to help us with these babies knowing how many others we also have in. We afe extremely grateful and trust her implicitly 🙏

Last night newbies. 6 kittens who’s Mum disappeared. They are anaemic, full of fleas, skin and bone, weak and have horrific diarrhoea. I’ll do my best but not holding out much hope.

🚨 ZOO CLOSED TODAY 🚨

Due to a fire at the zoo, we are CLOSED TODAY - Monday 3rd August 2026.

The fire brigade are currently on site and dealing with the situation. The fire is currently isolated to an area with no animals but our teams are dedicated to ensuring that all of our animals and team members remain safe and well. We are therefore closed to the public today.
