✨ Christmas Appointments Update ✨

My phone has been pinging with messages and emails over the last few days from people hoping to book in before Christmas.

I’m really sorry, but I now have no remaining appointments for the rest of the year. The weeks leading up to Christmas are already over capacity, so I’m unable to squeeze in any additional dogs.

November is Senior Dog Month which is a time to celebrate our wonderful older dogs and focus on how we can best support them in their advancing years.

As they age, changes can sometimes creep in gradually... As a dog groomer, I’m able to spot these from visit to visit. Grooming senior dogs often means adapting the groom to ensure their comfort and letting you know when certain parts of the process are becoming more difficult for them. This can be the struggle to stand for long periods or not tolerating the dryers anymore.

Working with veteran dogs has been a huge learning curve throughout my time as a groomer. Every dog is different, but I always make sure steps are taken to prioritise their comfort and complete the groom in their own time. It is also important that you tell me of any changes as they age.

And the hardest part, which never gets easier, is saying goodbye to my oldies who have visited me in their later years.... 🐾❤️

This is Salvo, a brave little fox terrier, just about to drop somewhere over England during World War II.

His owner, an American airman, claimed that Salvo could leap from 1,500 feet and land safely. A small but fearless canine companion in extraordinary times.

This is just a glimpse of the mess that gets swept up at least four times a day when your dog comes in for their groom!

I’ve had a lovely student from Plumpton College shadowing me recently, and she’ll be joining me over the next few months. Some of you might get to meet her when you bring your dog to the barn for its groom.

Showing her what’s involved in my working day has reminded me just how much there is to learn when you’re starting out. All of this feels second nature now, but there is a lot of knowledge, techniques and health and safety to teach! ✂️🐶

It’s been a hectic week catching up after a dose of Covid last week, so the salon floor has been covered in spaniel fluff, Cockapoo curls and handstripped coats!

But the “Cute Award” this week definitely goes to Kip the Border Terrier pup, who came in for his very first bath and to chat through grooming options with his owner. A little bundle of high energy and full of character, which is a perfect reminder of why I absolutely love Border Terriers! 🐾🤎
