☀️ Did you know pets can get sunburnt too? ☀️

Just like us, our furry friends can suffer from the effects of too much sun exposure — especially pets with light-coloured fur, pink skin, thin coats, or exposed areas like noses, ears, and bellies.

Signs of sunburn in pets may include:
🐾 Red or flaky skin
🐾 Sensitivity or pain when touched
🐾 Dry, cracked ears or nose
🐾 Excessive licking or scratching

To help protect your pets this summer:
✅ Avoid peak heat and sun hours
✅ Provide plenty of shade and fresh water
✅ Use pet-safe sunscreen on vulnerable areas
✅ Keep walks to cooler parts of the day

Severe or repeated sunburn can increase the risk of skin cancer in pets, so prevention is important.

If you’re concerned about your pet’s skin or need advice on sun protection, feel free to contact the practice. 🐶🐱

☀️ With the weather forecast looking hot and sunny this next week, we wish to remind everyone to be really careful with heatstroke, it can become dangerous very quickly. This is especially important for our flat faced breeds, older dogs and pets with underlying health conditions.

🚗Don’t leave dogs in cars
🌳Walk early in the morning or later in the evening
🔥Avoid hot pavements - if it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for paws
💧Continuous access to fresh water
🏠 Keep pets cool indoors and out of direct heat
🚨Watch for signs of heatstroke: excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, vomiting or collapse

Any concerns get the dog wet and get it to a vet.
