🐾 Why home maintenance between grooms matters🐾
Just to clarify before I begin - this is my niece's dog (that she's just been given recently). This post isn't about naming or shaming anyone, it's simply an opportunity to educate and hopefully help other owners avoid the same situation 💕
One of the hardest parts of my job is having to clip off a beautiful fluffy dog because it's become too matted to brush out safely.
A common misconception is that a comb attachment will go through it.
Unfortunately, if a metal comb can't pass all the way through the coat to the skin, neither can a clipper comb attachment. In these cases, the kindest and safest option is often to clip underneath the matting and allow the coat to grow back healthy!
✨ Daily brushing is key- but it's not just the top of the coat that needs attention! Make sure you're brushing and combing:
Behind the ears
Around the collar and harness area
Under the front legs and armpits
Around the tail and back legs
Basically anywhere there's friction!
Three essentials every fluffy dog owner should have:
Detangling Spray - helps loosen small knots and reduces pulling.
Metal Comb - the best way to check you've reached right down to the skin and haven't missed hidden tangles.
Slicker Brush - perfect for removing loose coat and keeping your dog fluffy between grooms.
Regular home maintenance, alongside a consistent grooming schedule, keeps your dog comfortable and helps avoid needing a short clip 🙌
