🐾 A Little Update from Pretty Pups 🐾

Hi everyone,

As most of you know, I run Pretty Pups as a one-on-one service, with just one dog in the salon at a time. This helps keep things calm, quiet, and as stress-free as possible, especially for nervous pups who need that extra bit of care.

To keep things running smoothly for everyone, I do need to introduce a Late Drop-Off & Pick-Up Fee, which will come into effect immediately.

What this means:

If you're more than 15 minutes late for either drop-off or pick-up, there’ll be a £5 late fee.

If it goes beyond that, it’ll be an extra £5 for every additional 15 minutes.

I haven’t made this decision lightly, I completely understand things happen outwith our control but regular late arrivals have started to affect my schedule and can be really disruptive, especially for dogs who are waiting to come in and need a quiet space.

If you are running late please call the salon to let me know ( ☎️ 01475 910331).

This change will help ensure I can stay on schedule and keep it fair for everyone.

📢 Price Changes

There will be a small price increase on some of my services. This is simply to reflect the one-to-one, premium care I offer as a solo groomer with overheads, whilst staying competitive with larger salons.

💙 Not all services are affected

💙 Any existing bookings in the diary will stay at their current price

💙 You can see the updated prices and Terms & Conditions anytime via the online booking system

Just a quick note to say thank you so much for your continued support. I’ve been blown away by how busy I’ve been since opening the salon. I’ve really enjoyed meeting every dog that’s came through the door.

If you have any questions at all, just drop me a message, I’m always happy to chat.

☀️ Hot Weather Warning for Dog Owners☀️

I want to take a moment to remind all pet parents: hot weather can be extremely dangerous for our furry friends 🐾

Dogs can't regulate heat like we do, and what feels warm to us can be overwhelming—or even deadly—for them.

🚨 Dangers of Hot Weather for Dogs:

Heatstroke (sunstroke) can happen quickly, even during short walks or time in the garden.

Hot pavement can burn paws, if you can’t walk barefoot on it, neither can they.

Overheating can cause vomiting, seizures, collapse, or worse.

🐶 Signs of Sunstroke:

Heavy panting or drooling
Bright red gums or tongue
Vomiting or diarrhea
Confusion or unsteadiness
Collapse or seizures

🆘 What to Do If You Suspect Heatstroke:

Move your dog to a cool, shaded area immediately.
Wet them down with cool (not ice-cold) water – focus on paws, belly, and neck.
Use a fan or cool air to help lower their body temperature.
Offer small sips of water but don’t force them to drink.

Call your vet right away. Even if they seem to recover, heatstroke can cause internal damage.

🐕‍🦺 Summer Safety Tips:

Walk early morning or late evening when it’s cooler.
Always bring water for both you and your dog.
Avoid long car rides or leaving dogs in parked cars even for a few minutes.

Keep coats trimmed but never shave double-coated breeds: it exposes them to sunburn and overheating.

Our dogs rely on us to keep them safe 💛

Adder bites are most common from June to August; would you know what to do if your pet ever encountered one? 🐍

Although rare, it's a good idea to get clued up on what to do if your pet is ever bitten by a snake - especially adders, the UK's only venomous snake species. Usually, adders aren't a threat, but they might defend themselves if a curious pooch gets too close.

If your pet gets bitten by an adder, you must treat it as an emergency by following the first aid advice below and contacting your vet immediately. Cats can also suffer from adder bites (although it's less common), and the same first aid should apply.

You can reduce the chance of encountering adders by avoiding areas known for them; staying out of long grass, woodland, moorland, and along the coast (sand dunes/coastal paths); and researching any unfamiliar areas for adder 'hot-spots' before walking your dog 🐕

[Visual description: An infographic showing photos of an adder and its markings. Alongside this is the following text: Adder bites in dogs. If your dog has been bitten by an adder, their symptoms will depend on where the bite is and where the venom spreads to. If the venom stays in the tissues around the bite, it will cause pain and swelling, but if it spreads further and gets into the bloodstream, it can cause much more serious problems, such as damage to the liver, kidneys, and nervous system. First aid for a snake bite. 1. If you see the snake, try to remember what it looks like or take a photo from a distance. Do not try to find the snake, get close to it, touch it, or harm it. Adders are a protected species, so it's illegal to hurt or kill them, and they can bite people if disturbed. 2. Keep your dog as still as possible to prevent the venom from spreading around their body. 3. Leave the bite alone, don't apply a bandage or tourniquet. 4. Call your vet to let them know you are coming down to the practice. 5. If possible, bring a car to your dog or, depending on their weight, carry them to it. Snake bites are an emergency - if your dog has been bitten, follow our first aid advice and take them to a vet ASAP.]

🐕HEATSTROKE IN DOGS🐕

We've been banging on about this for years! HEATSTROKE is a MEDICAL EMERGENCY! Fortunately, now more and more professionals are communicating the same message!

Whilst the need for rapid cooling with COLD water (1-15°C) has been recognised for decades in equestrian and human medicine, the dog world has lagged behind, and very poor information still circulates. e.g. "cool the paws", "cover with wet towels", "avoid cold water as it will cause shock"

THE KEY MESSAGES ARE............

💦"WET THEN VET"💦

💦"COLD WATER IMMERSION" (1-15°C)💦
(If you can't immerse, keep pouring ANYTHING COLD over the dog - hose, soft drinks, milk, etc)

💦Dogs die of heatstroke because they were NOT COOLED QUICKLY ENOUGH, NOT BECAUSE THEY WERE COOLED!

♨️RISK FACTORS FOR HEATSTROKE IN HOT WEATHER♨️

♨️Large dogs
♨️DOUBLE-COATED breeds
♨️Brachycephalic breeds
♨️June, July, August (UK)
♨️Exercise, being outdoors, left in cars

EDIT: - If a dog is PANTING, it's struggling to control its body TEMPERATURE! 💦HOSE IT TO COOL IT DOWN!💦

❤️PLEASE SHARE - Spread accurate information; potentially save a dogs life!❤️
