☀️Keeping Your Dog Cool During the Heatwave 🐾
Due to the hot weather, daytime temperatures are becoming too high for safe dog walking.
To protect your dogs from overheating, heatstroke, and burnt paws, walks should be adjusted, moved to cooler parts of the day, shortened, or replaced with enrichment activities where needed.
Here below are few simple ways to help your dog stay safe, cool, and comfortable in the hot weather:
💧 Keep plenty of fresh, cool water available at all times
🌳 Provide shaded, cool areas to rest indoors and outdoors
🚫 Avoid walks during the hottest part of the day – stick to early mornings or late evenings
🐾 Check pavements before walks – if it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for paws
🧊 Try frozen treats, ice cubes, frozen Kongs, or dog-safe ice lollies
🛁 Use cooling mats, damp towels, paddling pools, or gentle cooling sprays
🏠 Keep rooms cool with fans, closed curtains/blinds, and good airflow
🚗 Never leave dogs in cars – even for a few minutes
😴 Encourage rest and avoid too much exercise or play in the heat
Watch for signs of overheating such as excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, vomiting, or weakness, and contact your vet if you’re concerned.
Stay safe and keep those tails wagging this summer! 🐶☀️💛
