🚨 LAST CALL FOR PURR DAY OUT VENDORS! 🚨

Our little cat-lover extravaganza is getting VERY real now 🥹🐈

PURR Day Out lands at BoxHub, Glasgow on Sunday 13th September, and as we get ready to finalise our line-up, we have space for a few more brilliant businesses, makers and creatives to join us for the day.

We’re specifically looking for CAT-SPECIFIC (or very cat-heavy!) vendors; think art, prints, accessories, treats, toys, homeware, gifts, crafts and all the weird and wonderful things that make cat people immediately say ‘take my money’. 👀 (ok, they make ME say that)

We’d also LOVE to hear from people who can bring something a little more interactive to the day: activities, workshops, crafts, kitty face painting, demonstrations or something we haven’t even thought of yet. If you think a room full of cat people would absolutely lose their minds for what you do, we would like to know about it.

Happy International Cat Day!

It feels like quite a fitting day to talk about something a few of our clients have brought to me recently.

As more cat-only salons have started appearing around Scotland, I’ve had people very kindly messaging me things they’ve spotted: similarities, ideas that feel familiar, things that look a little bit PURR-shaped, and I think there’s an important distinction I want to make.

I never started PURR because I wanted to be the only cat groomer in Scotland 😹🤦‍♀️ One of the things I want MOST is for cat grooming to become completely normal! For owners to understand why cats benefit from professional grooming, for feline-specific education to improve, and for dedicated spaces designed around cats to become as common as services built for dogs.

And, particularly after seeing some genuinely worrying grooming practices appearing alongside the growth of this industry, seeing more groomers investing in calm, one-to-one, welfare-led, cat-specific salons is something I am enormously happy about.

What I don’t want (and what I don’t think any small business owner should be expected to quietly accept) is for growing an industry to mean surrendering the individual work you’ve done to build your place within it.

PURR has been built through an extraordinary amount of trial and error, research, investment, creativity, mistakes, late nights and me saying ‘I have an idea’ to JP with increasingly alarming frequency 😅

I’ve also probably shared more of that process publicly than most business owners would.

I’ve always liked being transparent because I think there is value in sharing what we learn, particularly in an industry that is still finding its feet. But I’m learning that transparency also needs boundaries. Our intellectual property, artwork, branding, resources, systems and original ideas are things we have worked incredibly hard for, and protecting those things doesn’t make me anti-‘competition’. It makes me protective of PURR.

And ultimately, if more cats across Scotland are receiving patient, educated, compassionate and species-appropriate care because this little industry of ours is growing? That is something worth celebrating 🐈✨

Everyone meet Mavis & Luna 🥹🤍

These precious little Scottish Fold & Scottish Straight girls came in for their very first groom and they were both absolute superstars! Such sweet, gentle, brave babies and I had THE best time playing with them. They completely melted my heart, and I already can’t wait to see them again. 🐾✨ - Caitlin x
