I am absolutely fascinated by canine behaviour and I am currently completing a level 5 diploma in Canine Behaviour which allows me the opportunity to understand how a dog thinks, what motivates them and how we can use this information to better understand our four legged friends more effectivel

With Tom we follow a kind of set routine, starting of with a game of searching for the chicken in the garden.

We then move onto our usual spot for our walk, toilet, some more search based games and back to the garden for a final game of "Find It"

I tend to find that the predictability is really helping Tom as we head out, there are no surprises (hopefully) and we are definitely seeing the benefits as Tom has been AMAZING on his walks 😍

For today's post I thought I would upload a recent BAT set up that I did with the amazing Daisy.

A BAT set up is basically when we organise an environmental situation involving a trigger (in this case a dog) at a distance whereby our pup is given the freedom to make their own choices developing confidence around the trigger.

As humans our task is to make sure we manage the environment making sure that we are constantly aware of how our dog is feeling in order to operate below their threshold.

The BAT analogy is to think of the dog on the beach, as soon as they start to enter the water they are crossing their threshold point, so we have to avoid this point making sure they remain on the beach, enabling them to demonstrate natural canine behaviour without our intervention..........

As you can see from the video, Daisy engages in normal behaviour, sniffing the ground whilst aware that there is a dog in the vicinity.

Her body language is relaxed, she isn't staring at rhe other dog or pulling to get towards them, instead taking in her surroundings and acting like a dog πŸ˜€

Big post today, however in a word this is a fantastic demonstration of the fantastic results that Behaviour Adjustment Training can provide 😍

I love this time of year when the leaves are in the ground and we can utilise nature's snuffle mat.

As long as it isnsafe to do so, I scatter some chicken in the leaves and let Maggie's nose do the rest 😍😍😍

When out on a walk with the gorgeous Bonnie, we happened to walk past The Jolly Tamil in Shawlands.

I think Bonnie could detect from outside how good the food is in there, pausing for a good old sniff outside 😍

P.S I have no affiliation to the restaurant, just went once and the food was epic.
