Next up …….. Kirsti! 👩🏼‍⚕️

Kirsti is our Student Veterinary Nurse 🩷 She has had many years experience in the veterinary environment working as a Receptionist and a Veterinary Care Assistant. She says: “The opportunity came up to train as an RVN by modern apprenticeship and I started in September 2024. Yes, it’s hard studying and going away to college but my goal was always to become an RVN, so I am dedicated and with the support of Crown Vets and my family I am getting there! Who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks!😂”

💚What’s your favourite part of the job?

In-patient nursing. Especially taking care of patient pre and post operatively.

💚If there’s a part of your job you’d happily never ever do again, what would that be?

I would find it difficult to work as a Receptionist again, there’s too many changes, I can’t keep up!

💚What’s your fave breed of dog?

SPANIELS 😁

💚 Favourite case?

Helping with a Caesarian section on a spaniel, recovering a puppy, that I really wanted to take home 🙈🙈 The spaniel and all her pups were healthy and it was a success!

Next up …….. Faye! 👩🏼‍⚕️

Faye is another one of our Registered Veterinary Nurses. She has recently become Head Veterinary Nurse, a new and exciting chapter for her. She was only meant to help us out for a few weeks when we were short staffed, 2.5 years ago! 🩷 This is what she has to say about her veterinary nursing career;

💚What’s your favourite part of the job?

Working with our feline patients. Taking the time to help calm, connect and gain their trust.

💚If there’s a part of your job you’d happily never ever do again, what would that be?

Any broken/fractured bones & dislocations 😵

💚What’s your fave breed of dog?

Am I allowed to say a cat? 😂
I have a soft spot for greyhounds

💚Most memorable case?

A Welsh Terrier had a serious fall from a mountain side in Glencoe. Her owner got her to us as soon as he could. With a full effort from the team, we saved her life. It really was touch and go, but she continued to make small improvements. When we were unsure if she would ever walk or see again, she regained both & managed to get back home to her owner. That was extremely rewarding.

Everybody meet …….. Isla! 👩🏼‍⚕️

Isla is another one of our Registered Veterinary Nurses. A local gal who spent 4 years studying to be an RVN at Edinburgh Napier University, we’re very lucky to have her!

& here’s what Isla has to say about her veterinary nursing career;

💚What’s your favourite part of the job?

Working in theatre monitoring anaesthetics

💚If there’s a part of your job you’d happily never ever do again, what would that be?

Faecal samples 🤣

💚What’s your fave breed of dog?

Labradors!

💚Most memorable case?

It’s hard to choose an individual case, but all the cases when you’re in out of hours and during the night, are definetly memorable. Especially my very first call out when I was newly qualified, it was a real emergency situation. A dog with a GDV (twisted stomach).

Everybody meet …….. Morag! 👩🏼‍⚕️

Morag is another one of our Registered Veterinary Nurses. She has recently returned to work from maternity leave and we are all so delighted to have her back! Here’s what Morag has to say about her veterinary nursing career;

💚What’s your favourite part of the job?

Surgical nursing

💚If there’s a part of your job you’d happily never ever do again, what would that be?

Cytology

💚What’s your fave breed of dog?

Jack Russell!

💚What’s your most memorable case?

Most memorable case was getting called in to work out of hours, for a St Bernard who had a GDV (twisted stomach), on the hottest day that year. It was extra dramatic with the thunder storm outside! The surgery and recovery all went well.
