Just a wee update on Forest. He was such a super star at the British Dressage Para Summer Champs early in the month. Although he tried his hardest for me, I could tell he just didn’t have his spark. I am down at Talland School of Equitation for 6 weeks and he was struggling with the heat and just didn’t seem himself. Bloods showed that he was having issues with his liver and he was bit anaemic. We made the decision for Mum to take him home to Brodie where it was much cooler, turn him out and let him recuperate.
He’s been on medication and the latest bloods show that his liver levels are back to normal although still a bit anaemic. He’s so much happier in himself, cantering around and bullying Jack, which I am so happy about (Jack isn’t!).
He’s having an endoscopy done tomorrow morning to check for ulcers. We think it’s unlikely as he’s a pretty chilled pony but it’s a good thing to check given how much travel he has to do.
We are due to compete at the British Dressage Para Home Nations as part of the 3-person Scottish team at the end of the month so are keeping our fingers crossed that he’s fully back to himself. In the meantime, poor Jack, who I haven’t ridden all year and was completely convinced he had retired, has had to put his dancing shoes back on with Mum schooling him for me, in the off-chance he might have to step up and take the spot from his nemesis!

(Oh, and for people south of the border - the green stuff is called “grass” and grows in abundance in the north of Scotland 😂)
