Just a (long๐Ÿ˜…) Dougal update. Its the last day of May and we have managed to get through the month without him falling ill again ๐Ÿฅณ With it being May 2024 and May 2025 when he fell ill the other times, I've been very anxious/worried about this May 26 and even though we've got through it, I can't help feel that we aren't yet out of the woods and maybe another few weeks or so without anything then I might begin to relax.๐Ÿคž
He had his xrays back in March which showed some spondylosis in his lower back. To able to show anything else he would have to have an mri which for reasons I have decided against. After his xrays we started to increase his excerise but his anxiety indoors was getting worse. A pain relief trail was started which comes with risks of possibly upsetting his previous conditions so there was discussions about what he could get and couldn't get, but it is a risk we had to take. This did help especially in the mornings but by the afternoon he would be getting worse again. He got his pain relief increased to 3 times a day which has made a difference. This made it clear that he is in some pain. He is now on Galliprant & Pardale and will be longterm. At the last vet visit there was mention that it could be along the lines of Lumbosacral disease with the symptoms he is having. He can no longer manage long walks, shorter gentle walks is the way forward now. Thats been hard to accept๐Ÿ˜ข
I've also came to the decision that if he was to fall ill again then I will not be putting him through the treatment for a 3rd time. It takes far too much out of him, its a very long "recovery" process and now adding in the spinal issue it would be very unfair and selfish of me to continually put him through it again & again.๐Ÿ’” He also isn't the Dougal he used to be.๐Ÿ˜ญ
The main thing just now is to keep him as comfortable as possible, hope that he won't fall ill again and spoil him more.
