🦜 Today is World Parrot Day! 🦜

World Parrot Day helps raise awareness of the challenges facing these amazing birds in the wild, including habitat loss, illegal wildlife trade, and other threats to their survival.

Here at Filey Zoo, we’re proud to care for a wonderful variety of parrot species. From magnificent macaws to charming lovebirds, and many fascinating species in between. Parrots are among the most colourful and charismatic animals in our collection.

Known for their intelligence, personality, and vibrant plumage, these incredible birds are a highlight for many of our visitors. Next time you visit, be sure to stop by and say hello to our feathered friends! 💚💙💛❤️

The formal gardens are looking stunning at this time of year, but the wildflower meadow is truly putting on a show! 🌼🌿

Oxeye Daisies, Red Campion, Ragged Robin, Buttercups and many more wildflowers are bursting with colour, beautifully complemented by the Yellow Flag Iris surrounding the wildlife pond. 🌱🌸

Not only is it beautiful but it also provides a vital habitat for countless insects and is a haven for bees, butterflies and other important pollinators. 🐝🦋

If you haven't visited recently, now is the perfect time to experience the meadow at its very best! 📸 ❤️

Here are a few of the noisiest residents at the zoo - even if their photos make them look like absolute angels!

1) George - of course he has to be first. He might not technically be the loudest, but he’s definitely a visitor favourite. He’ll chat, dance and entertain you all day long.

2) Clapton, our male Red‑crested Turaco, who does his best to make the peaceful garden… slightly less peaceful.

3) Polly, one of our Amazon Parrots, who loves to make herself heard - especially if George next door is getting more attention than she is.

4) Skips, our Rainbow Lorikeet in the garden corner. She may be small, but don’t be fooled - she has plenty to shout about.

WOW – what a day ‼️

We’ve just had our busiest day ever… by quite a long way!

Firstly, a huge thank you to our small but amazing team of staff and volunteers who somehow kept everything running – just!

Secondly, thank you so much to everyone who came to visit us today. We’re so sorry to those who couldn’t get in – both the main car park and our overflow were completely full. That said, everyone was so patient and understanding, and we really appreciate it.

If you’re planning to visit tomorrow, please be aware that we’re expecting another busy day. Midweek tends to be our busiest time, and mornings are always much busier than afternoons. If you’d prefer a more peaceful visit, we’d recommend coming later in the day. Mondays and Fridays are usually our quietest days too.

Thanks again for all your support – it means the world to us! 😊

Exciting news! Channel 5 News have been filming a feature on our amazing keeper Jenny and her incredible brain 🎥

Many of you might already recognise her from the BBC or from stories in the newspapers!

Today they caught her in her element, surrounded by animals and enjoying the sunshine ☀️🐾

Want to hear more about her fascinating story and the research behind it? Tune in at 5pm tonight – or catch it later on catch-up!

☀️ Hot, hot, hot!…but we’re making sure our animals are not! 🐾

🍏 Here’s Angus, one of our Black and White Ruffed Lemurs, enjoying his dinner in a cool and refreshing way 🥕

🧊 Ice isn’t just great for keeping animals cool during the warmer weather - it also provides fantastic enrichment, encouraging natural behaviours and making them work a little for their food too! 😁

The animals may be the stars of the show, but at this time of year our award-winning gardens are putting on a spectacular performance too! 🌸🌿

Bursting with colour and full of life, they offer the perfect peaceful spot to sit, relax, and enjoy the sounds of birdsong from the surrounding aviaries — all right in the heart of the zoo. 🌼🪻

☀️ Bank Holiday Weekend!
Planned a beach day… then realised you forgot to check the tide times?

So… what are you gonna do?
Easy - come and visit Filey Zoo instead!

No tides. No soggy shoes. Just sunshine, animals and a whole lot of fun.

We’ve been having a bit of fun trying out some AI‑generated images lately - just to mix things up and see what you think. Don’t worry, our real photos and real updates of our amazing animals aren’t going anywhere.
If this style isn’t your cup of tea, please don’t unfollow - just pop a comment below and let us know. We love hearing what you enjoy, and we’re always experimenting to keep things fresh for you.

🎉 Happy 18th ‘Birthday’ to us! 🎉

On 23rd May 2008, we opened our gates for the very first time - and what a journey it’s been!

Back in 2004, we started with an empty 5‑acre grass field and a dream. We even struggled to get planning permission, and once we finally did, we wondered… if we built it, would anyone actually come?

Thankfully, you did — and you kept coming. 🥰

In 2017 we were granted our official Zoo Licence, allowing us to welcome even more incredible species. Today, we’re still proudly family‑owned and run, still growing, still improving, and still adding new animals and attractions wherever we can. 🐵

We never imagined, all those years ago, that we’d one day be caring for so many amazing species — from critically endangered lemurs to meerkats, and even monkeys and a crocodile right here in Filey. One day we might slow down… but definitely not yet. 🐊

Most importantly, none of this would have been possible without you.
Your visits, your support, your enthusiasm — they’re the reason we’re here 18 years later. 👪

If you’ve made memories with us over the years, we’d love to see them. Please share your favourite photos — bonus points for the older ones, we love looking back at how far we’ve come. 📸

Here’s to 18 years of animals, gardens, families, fun… and to many more ahead. ❤️
