🌿 Happy World Lemur Day! 🌍

Today we’re celebrating one of the most charismatic and fascinating groups of animals in the world – lemurs!

Here at Filey Zoo, we’re lucky to be home to three beautiful black and white ruffed lemurs: Angus, Finola and Peebles! ❤️

With their striking coats, expressive faces and wonderfully inquisitive personalities, these three certainly know how to make an impression.

But behind those charismatic faces is an important conservation story. Lemurs are the most endangered group of mammals in the world and are found naturally only on the island of Madagascar! Habitat loss and deforestation are major threats to their survival. 🪵

Did you know? Black and white ruffed lemurs are important pollinators! As they feed on nectar, they transfer pollen between flowers, helping the plants and trees of Madagascar’s forests to thrive.

Today, join us in celebrating the amazing lemurs of Madagascar. Let’s help raise awareness and protect these very special animals! 💚

🦂 A scorpion skeleton… or a Halloween decoration gone wrong?! 😂

🪲 Our sun beetles seem to have found themselves on a rather unusual display at Filey Zoo! 👀

The “scorpion skeleton” might look spooky, but here’s the science bit: scorpions and beetles don’t have bones like we do - they have a hard outer covering called an exoskeleton instead!

🦴 On this occasion we won’t let a little scientific inaccuracy spoil the Halloween fun… 🎃

☠️ Until death do us part… 🖤

🎃 We’ve been loving all your amazing feedback on our Halloween displays! They take a skele-ton of time to put together, so hearing your reactions makes every minute worthwhile. 👻

💀 We’re open daily this half term, so come and see our spooky creations for yourself. They’re all family-friendly and full of fun, with nothing too scary for little ones. 🎃

🎃 Health & Safety in the Wind! 🌬️💀

Poor Dave had a little workplace accident involving some badly placed timber! 😅 Luckily, he was wearing all the right PPE and, being a skeleton, escaped with barely a flesh wound! 😂🦴

👻 Come and enjoy our spooky Halloween scenes, join the treasure hunt, and meet all our amazing animals at Filey Zoo this half term!

🎃 Open daily throughout Half Term! 🕷️

OPEN TODAY 10-4 🎃

🦴 😎 This family was determined to enjoy a beach day in Filey! They braved the 60mph wind yesterday to get a bit of sunshine - though they do look ‘chilled to the bone’ 😂 💀

We have been hard at work getting the site safe and tidy for visitors again. The Halloween displays are all back up and the treasure hunt is on! 🧙

🌧️ CLOSED TODAY DUE TO THE WEATHER! 🌬️

We understand this may be disappointing, but after assessing the conditions and damage around the site this morning, we’ve had to make the difficult decision to close for today. 🍂

Thankfully, all the animals are okay, and most will be staying cosy in their houses and shelters while the weather passes. 🐐

Unfortunately, we’ve had trees come down, marquees damaged and Halloween decorations blown all over the place! 🎃

Visitor safety is our top priority, so we feel we have no choice but to close for the day while we assess the damage and get everything tidied up and safe again. 🪵

Fingers crossed for a calmer, less windy day tomorrow, and we hope to welcome you all back very soon! 🤞

Thank you for your understanding and support. Please stay safe out there! ❤️

🕰️ Don’t forget the clocks go back tonight! 🍂

With the shorter days, our opening hours are now 10am–4pm daily, with last admission at 3pm. We’re still open every day, so there’s plenty of time to come and see all our wonderful animals! 🦎

Some of our animals are totally unbothered by the change in weather! 🌦️

Our Egyptian Uromastyx is quite happy basking under its heat and UV lighting, keeping warm while the British weather does its thing outside! 😎

You can also enjoy our Halloween decorations and take part in our spooky treasure hunt while you explore! 🎃👻🔍

🍻 It’s Friday night but the Zoo bar is dead! ☠️😂

🎃 We are open daily until 29th November! The Halloween decorations are up and the treasure hunt is running through half term! 💀

🤞 The forecast looks ok in the morning so get here early to miss the storm 🌧️ 💨
