Yesterday saw the second of our wednesday activity afternoons - this week was ride & road safety where the children learnt how to ride safely out and about including on the roads.

All the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves, learning new skills and getting a certificate and rosette at the end of the day to show what they learnt

We have 4 more activity afternoons left all with different activities and skills to learn so call now for more info and to book.

These are for children 8yrs + who can canter confidently off the lead rein but we also have our mini pony mornings for those 6yrs + and still need some assistance riding

Job vacancy (Maternity Cover)

We are looking for a full time groom (5 days a week) to join our established team to cover maternity leave (starting in August)

We are looking for someone who can work as part of an established team to cover all aspects of horse care/ stable management and take pride in presenting horses for customers, and is capable of assisting with lessons. We provide educational lessons for all ages and abilities from beginner children and adults, disabled riders right through to experienced riders. This is not a riding position but some hacking to es**rt rides is a possibility.

Advance warning for those with lessons on Sunday, Alphington road is closed all day so plan some extra travel time as there is likely to be heavy traffic coming off the A30 and coming through town.

Alphington Rd, Exeter will be closed on 06/07/25 from 07:00 to 19:00 for surface treatment works. Please plan an alternative route. JC

IMPORTANT REMINDER

We wanted to raise the issue of wearing appropriate clothing as in the last few days we have had people turning up to ride in shorts and strappy tops.

We know it's hot but for your own comfort and safety we ask that you wear suitable clothing such as a t-shirt that covers your whole torso and trousers/jods

We have had a great half-term week with our Mini Pony Days making the most of the nice weather.

The ponies enjoyed all the cuddles and extra attention!

Thank you to everyone who came and also to all those that snuck in some extra lessons whilst you were off school.

The founder of Oaklands Riding School and Newoak Stud died on 5 May aged 74, following a short illness. Born and raised in Exeter, Devon, Joyce was the daughter of Peggy and Alf Newberry, farmers by trade but stock people to the core. She attended her first horse show aged seven and never lost the ....

A Celebration of Life for Joyce Newbery is being held at Oakland’s Stables EX29JA on the 10th June at 2pm this will be open for anyone who would like to attend and pay respects. Joyce will be in attendance so make sure to keep your heals down and thumbs up!

Joyce Peggy Newbery 26/3/51-5/5/25

It is with immense sadness and heavy hearts, that we share the news of the sudden passing of Joyce Newbery in the early hours of this morning, May 5th, 2025.

Joyce started the riding school in 1972. Her passion for horses, unwavering commitment, and belief that everyone should have the chance to ride made the riding school a special place for so many, creating a lasting impact on countless riders over the years.

The riding school will continue to run as usual but we kindly ask for your patience and understanding in the next few days.
