This Is Not How We Wanted to Say Goodbye
We’re heartbroken to announce that we’ll be closing our doors on December 1st — not because we failed, not because we gave up, but because our landlord made it impossible for us to stay.
We’ve been pushed out by greed. Plain and simple.
To the landlord AEW worth £80 billion and cruel, heartless yet somehow B-Corp certified MAPP (@ wearemapp can’t tag them they blocked me) there are not enough words for the unnecessary cruelty, disrespect, blatant misogyny, etc that you threw at me for 224 days before finally emailing me to tell me it was over - only after I threatened to have a filibuster style protest in the shop until you gave me an answer.
This business was built with sweat, time, and love. It wasn’t just a job — it was a dream, a community, and a space that mattered. And losing it like this? It hurts more than I can explain.
To our customers, friends, and everyone who showed up for us — THANK YOU. You kept us going when things got tough. Your support means everything.
We’re not done forever. We’re just forced to pause. When we return, it’ll be with even more fire.

I didn’t realise the original post cropped some parts out - this should be a little more cohesive. I can’t tag managing agent @ wearemapp because they blocked me months ago but the landlord group that owns Windsor Royal and Windsor Yards hasn’t yet 👀

I can’t tag MAPP because they blocked me. @ wearemapp

Some of you may know me, some may not but I’m Jennifer Shephard, proprietor of A Dog’s Life Co. My journey began in Eton in 2018 and moved to my current location in Windsor Royal Shopping in December 2020.
My lease is up for renewal this year and the landlord (who owns Windsor Royal Shopping and Windsor Yards) doesn’t want to renew it because they want to move a franchise in.
I’ve operated in Windsor and Eton since 2018, I’m incredibly grateful to all my loyal customers that have helped me through some enormously difficult trading conditions. It’s been a challenging environment to survive in as an independent business but being replaced by a Greggs or Poundland wasn’t what I imagined to be my demise.
I found it shocking as everything had been going otherwise well in the past five years. I had expressed my interest in renewing my lease and had expected an increase in rent as everything has gone up in the past several years.
It seems like they are not interested in keeping independent businesses in their properties and would rather replace them with soulless and bland high street stores.
I’m going to continue to fight to stay but it’s about more than just me. I know some of you may think my business is ridiculous, stupid, unnecessary, etc but hopefully lots of you agree that having diverse independent businesses is preferable to a sea of cookie cutter franchises and empty units and contributes positively to Windsor.
Whether it’s in support of me or in support of a better high street, please sign this petition.
Petition link in bio - after signing you must verify your email or the signature doesn’t count and any of the donations the site are asking for are for their running costs so do not feel compelled. This isn’t a fundraiser for me - just show your support by signing.
