This song and movie (Apex) made me think of teething land sharks so I thought it be appropriate to share some tips and info on teething. Having a land shark with razor sharp teeth also makes me want to run away from them😅 🏃‍♀️🦈😬

One of the biggest mindset shifts is understanding that your puppy usually isn’t trying to be difficult here. They’re uncomfortable, excited, curious and still learning how interaction with humans works.

A few things that genuinely help:

• frozen Kongs
• frozen carrots
• cooling chew toys
• appropriate outlets for chewing and shredding
• structured rest
• calmly redirecting onto appropriate items

Cooling things to chew can make a huge difference when gums are sore.

Also remember: the more attention puppies get for stealing shoes, socks and household items, the more valuable those items become.

Try to heavily reinforce the choices you DO want to see.

The goal during teething is guiding your puppy through the phase without building habits you don’t want long-term.

Lately, I keep seeing dog trainers posting videos of their dogs out in public with no collar and no visible ID tag.

And honestly? It bothers me more than it probably should.

Not because I think their dogs are going to run away.

But because professionals set the standard.

In the UK, dogs in public are legally required to wear a collar with an ID tag attached showing the owner’s name and address under the Control of Dogs Order 1992.

A microchip does NOT replace this requirement.

And yet somehow, in dog training spaces, we’ve normalised the idea that “well-trained dogs” don’t need collars, leads, management, or visible identification.

Meanwhile Karen and Paul down the road are watching these videos and thinking:
“if the trainers do it, it must be fine.”

Because the public copies professionals whether we like it or not.

So let’s set good examples.
It should be as simple as that.

Also be aware that you can receive a hefty fine for your dog not wearing their ID tag or one with the correct info. Something that isn’t widely known.

Crate training can be tricky because I don’t find the advise that’s accessible to be very clear on the subject. So I’ve tried pulling together my best tips on how to best speed up the process so your pup can start feeling secure in their space.
The quicker they learn that this is their space to rest, the easier the process will be long term so make crate training a priority.

Crates are largely not used where I am from, but I have really come to appreciate their use when you have high energy working type breeds who struggle to self regulate or to switch off. They speed up your toilet training and teaches your dog to have their own space and getting them to be comfortable in a crate will also come in handy should they need to stay overnight at the vets some day.

We had so much fun meeting new pups and future dog parents at our Puppy Hour this weekend.
It’s lovely chance for the puppies to explore in a safe space and an opportunity to meet us and ask us questions and see if we are the right fit for you and your pup. This weekend we witnessed a cute love story in the making as a massive bonus!
