🐾 This is my little chihuahua cross I’ve been working with whose owner came to me to address his barking and reactivity. When we first headed out in to Cooper Park, a dog couldn’t be a mere speck in the distance without Guinness having a big reaction. He still has a long way to go and a lot to learn when it comes to “face to face” meetings but for him to allow not one, but two, dogs so close to him is HUGE. 🐾 His owners have worked hard on establishing strong leadership in their home which has allowed Guinness to trust in them and look to them for guidance when put in uncomfortable situations. He no longer feels like he always has to deal with things on his own, the only way he knew how- barking and lunging to ward off the “threat”. 🐾 In the first video, you’ll see that he decides to walk close to my Evie as she has become a “safe” dog for him. At first she couldn’t go anywhere near him, never mind have his owner hold her lead! 🐾 In the second clip, we addressed one of his main triggers he has- dogs without owners. Big thank you to Rob and Mac for helping us out with this part!

This weekends dogs and their stories!

🐾 Doogie Dachshund- Ongoing training without the owner present to build his confidence in the outside world. When we started, he didn’t even want to leave his garden. We are now well on our way to the end goal which is for him to eventually be comfortable going out with his dog walker ☺️

🐾 Frej the Dachshund- Ongoing recall training as she is partial to running off after the occasional runner and other dogs who look like they may be interesting. She’s coming along nicely though and was perfect on a very busy Lossie beachfront.

🐾 Bailey the red lab- My board to train dog this week. She’s been working on her social skills as well as refining her recall and heel work. She’s had a busy weekend! Today she got to make friends with her twin- Summer the red lab. It’s hard to tell who is who 🤣 And on Friday she came out with Mac (Collie X Golden retriever) to work on her recall! Saturday was a large pack walk which was far too busy for picture taking! 🤪

What a beautiful morning for group training. We worked on recall, compromising space, lead work, general socialisation and manners and more.

But, the most important thing I do during my training sessions is take the pressure off the dogs in between all of that. Their favourite “pressure off” was getting a dip in the sea at the end! 🌊 🐾 ☀️

For any odd jobs/ dump runs/ gardening work, Lauren at Handywoman Hambly is your girl! I just used her for a dump run to get rid of some broken/ old dog kennels and had a big clear out- very fairly priced and efficient.

She also does gardening, fence painting, shed painting, and a load of other odd jobs- a very handy woman to know. Go give her page a like and a follow! 🐾

Meet Daisy 🌼 🖤

Daisy and her humans have been working hard with Lauren at Wolf at Heart- Dog Training to implement leadership & to socialise Daisy from a young age.

Wow 🤩 what a good job they have done. Daisy came for her first pack walk today. We used a long line and used the same commands. With good leadership and consistency what an incredible job they have done.

Daisy was confident, social, her recall was 100% for a young dog in her teenage years I was super impressed.

So a massive Walkies welcome to Daisy 🌼 🖤🐾🐶

Thought I’d share some photos from my 1-1 training session with Doogie the Dachshund this week.

His owners came to me as he was very anxious about the world outside of his garden. There were times when he didn’t want to leave his house to go out for his walks. Building Doogie’s confidence from the ground up isn’t a fast process, but he is lucky to have very committed owners and is doing so well.

He has now built up enough trust for me to take him out on his own, a big step for this little man. Check him confidently surveying his surroundings at the beachfront in Lossie with those majestic windswept ears! No hiding, no reactivity. One very good boy. 🐾

Thought I’d give Leela her own post from yesterday. She is a teenage Dogue De Bordeaux X Staffy and is such a sweetheart. She came to me for a day board as well as to be handled by me at my group training session. She even got to meet a fellow staffy friend! 🐾

Leela has been through puppy training with me and, despite being a teenager, is so well behaved. Her only downside is that she’s a bit of a bull in a china shop as she’s got no idea how big or strong she is 🤣 This has improved though and is a work in progress!

Warm training session earlier 🌞 The dogs were loving having the river right next to us the whole time!

Very rewarding session with two spaniels who came to me with a combination of reactivity and anxiety. You wouldn’t have been able to tell which dogs they were during this group session because they’re doing so well!

Establishing clear leadership, consistency and building the owners confidence in their dogs has been key while training both. Alongside continuous positive experiences like this of course 😊
