St Francis Animal Welfare is a registered charity (1166590) which was first established in 1953 and is now based at Sunnyside Cottage, Mortimer's Lane in Fair Oak, near Southampton. We provide shelter and care for many animals, including cats, dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs, birds and many other small mammals. We aim to rehabilitate and rehome as many animals as we can but have many long term resident

s including several cats, two pigs, two ponies and many chickens. If you are interested in adopting a rescue animal please pop into the shelter and fill out a registration form during our opening hours. We always need hardworking volunteers to help with the animals and to help fundraise. If this is something you may be interested in please do contact us.

About me: Shona is an incredibly sweet and affectionate little lady who absolutely adores love and attention. After being a wonderful mum to her kittens, she’s now ready to enjoy all the fuss, playtime and cuddles for herself.

Cats: No.

Dogs: Pending assessment.

Children: 8 years and over.

Ideal home: Shona would like a loving home where she would not be left alone for long periods of time.

About me: Elsie is a sweet little lady who has been a fantastic mum and is now ready to enjoy the peaceful life she deserves. She can be a little timid at times, but she still likes to be involved in what’s going on around her. Elsie enjoys gentle strokes, quiet company, and spending time outside exploring or relaxing.

Cats: Pending further assessment, but she has previously lived with other cats.

Dogs: Pending assessment.

Children: 12 years and over (or 10+ if cat-savvy).

Ideal home: Elsie would like a quiet home where she can build a strong bond with a loving family.

💕 Forever Home Friday 💕

“A few years ago we adopted two kittens from St Francis, originally Jessie and Slinky, now McTatt and Socks! We fell in love with them and since then we’ve always been checking the website for any other kittens needing homes that we can help. When we came across Florence’s last kitten we very quickly came to the conclusion that we can’t let him spend Christmas alone and that he must join our group of four girl cats!

When we met him he was so playful and so excited to play fetch, which he still does today. He was fairly quiet at first but now he’s the most vocal of all our cats, and he loves to be the center of attention, following people around and yelling to let us know when he has a toy to play fetch with! He’s the happiest little boy who loves to cuddle up with anyone he can, and loves his food too! He’s definitely been enjoying his time here and making sure his presence is known wherever he goes!”

🐾 Specialised Diet Donations Needed 🐾

Some of our current kittens came from challenging circumstances and have been experiencing ongoing tummy troubles since arriving with us. 🤒

To help settle their tiny tums, we are in need of Hill's Prescription Diet i/d Digestive Care (wet and dry food) 🍽

We are also very low again on wood-based cat litter 🪵

Life at the shelter isn't easy for any animal, but some find it much more difficult.

Finn has so much love to give and is happiest when he’s around people. He’s dreaming of a peaceful forever home where he can finally relax and enjoy all the affection he craves 🐶

The cattery has been a difficult adjustment for Cleo, leaving her feeling unsure and out of place. She would love a patient family and a cosy space where she can truly be herself 🐱
