Sending your mare to stud can feel like a bit of a whirlwind, especially when you're co-ordinating chilled semen from elsewhere. At West End Farm Stud, we take the stress off your plate - indeed in 2025 we even collected some chilled semen at an event and brought it straight home and AI'd the mare.

When your mare arrives at our Thrnholme base:

✅ The ERS Edge: Our reproductive vets (ERS Malton) will scan your mare to track the follicle, ensuring that we order the semen at the right time for the best chance of success.
✅ Seamless Delivery: We co-ordinate with the stallion owner to ensure the chilled semen arrives fresh and is inseminated immediately upon delivery.

Ready to Breed? Timing is everything ⏰

If you're planning to bring your mare to West End Farm Stud this season, the first step is tracking her cycle. This can sometimes be tricky with a "shy" mare.

Common signs your mare is coming into "season" includes:
✅Frequent urination or "squatting"
✅Winking: Eversion of the v***a
✅Increased interest in other horses (especially the boys)
✅Tail raising and a general change in temperament - some get cuddly, others a bit more sensitive!

Top Tip - Start a diary now!. Knowing the length of your mare's cycle makes it much easier (and cheaper) for us and the team at ERS Malton to pinpoint the perfect window for covering or AI
