Yesterday we ran a bronze and silver level Scent Ops trial in a beautiful cool church in the heart of the surrey hills.

Bronze
The area started in the internal reception porch and then moved into the back of the church along a corridor and opened out into a relaxation area with a small kitchen attached and then extended down the side of the church with chair pews.

The first hide was located on a candle stand in a corner at the back of they church. Dogs tended to miss this as they passed if not searching carefully but then located hide on second passing from the other direction.

The second hide was under a bench in the side of the church. Dogs worked this in well once they hit odour.

Silver
The area was the whole church including an adjoining kitchen.

The first hide was a slightly inaccessible high hide behind the raised pulpit in the front of the church. Dogs hit odour and then had to problem solve to where it was located.

The second hide was in the kitchen on the bottom of a bin. Dogs picked up odour on the opposite side of the small kitchen and then had to problem solve to the source.

It was great to see some new teams to Scentops today with some great NFC searches too. Congratulations everyone!

What a season we have had! Our members won all 4 national ScentOps leagues 🥳

ScentOps is operational style searching where dogs search large complex areas for their target odour.

Hides become more complex in the higher levels where they may be inaccessible.

Always a pleasure to work my own dogs this scentwork workshop was outdoor searching. We built skills for inaccessible hides, ground searches and area clearing.
