Who needs a real stick when you can pick up a toy version from Pets at Home?

Meet Brody, a playful four-month-old labrador whose owner Heather, who is a vet nurse, knows the danger of dogs playing with real sticks. When she spotted this toy stick at Pets at Home Redhill, she knew it was the perfect alternative for her energetic pup.

Heather said, “Although sticks can provide lots of fun for dogs in parks, they can create quite serious injuries. Splinters of wood get caught in gums, causing dental abscesses and pain. Sometimes, they can even get wedged across the top of a dog's mouth. Being a labrador, Brody loves to carry things around and chase toys, and this toy stick is the perfect length and weight for him, even as a puppy.”

Morrigan the crow still visits the garden of vet Justyn from Portsmouth Vets4Pets who nursed her back to health after she was brought in with a fractured wing.

Morrigan was brought into the practice by a concerned member of the public, after being found injured and unable to fly. Diagnosing a fractured wing, Justyn, who has extensive experience of caring for wildlife, knew she had a good chance of survival and could be re-released after a couple of weeks of around the clock care.

Justyn, who owns Vets4Pets Portsmouth, said, “I called Sally, my fiancé, straight away to ask if I could bring the crow home, but I already knew she’d say yes; we both love animals! Crows are omnivores, so I bought a mix of everything: insect mix, peanuts, chopped tomatoes, and even blueberries, which were a firm favourite with Morrigan. To prevent weight issues from lack of exercise, we kept portion sizes minimal to avoid overfeeding.”

After two weeks under Justyn and Sally’s expert care, Morrigan has been successfully released into their garden.

One local food bank which will be helped by the Pets Foundationn Blue Cross UKs appeal is West Cheshire Foodbank.

West Cheshire Foodbank is part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK. Last year they supported 14,500 people, including 4,800 children. Sue, pictured, says that the food bank is a lifeline for her and her dogs. She said, “My dogs are my life, they give me comfort and a listening ear! When times have been hard, I've missed meals to feed them, just like I would for any member of my family. Your donations are so needed, thank you."

There were happy tears all round at Vets4Pets York Clifton Moor as they celebrated the end of nine-year-old Sydney's chemotherapy journey.

Owner Julian, who has had Sydney since she was a puppy, brought the labrador into the practice in January after noticing she had lost her appetite and was frequently sneezing. Tests revealed a cancerous tumour in Sydney’s nose, and after surgery to remove it at a specialist centre, Julian chose to continue her treatment with chemotherapy at his local vets. Julian said, “It was a big shock when we found out Sydney had cancer. We thought it was a nose infection, but our vet, Paul, realised it was a tumour straight away. The whole team has been fantastic, from vets Paul and Laura to the receptionists and nurses. We’ve been with the practice for years, and Sydney is a part of their family. The day she finished her chemotherapy, there were tears all round."

Vet Laura, pictured with Sydney, said: “Sydney did really well throughout and always looked really happy to see us. She will now be monitored for any signs of recurrence, but hopefully, that has cleared it. We love to have a little celebration once a pet finishes their chemotherapy with us.”

Our Sunny Daze Lovely Lemons accessories are getting lots attention on social media – just ask Pablo and Milo.

Lauren & Ross, proud owners of four-month-old British shorthair kitten Pablo, says they chose he harness because it matches his eyes. Meanwhile Milo’s owner, Millie, has fully embraced the lemon theme.

Millie, who shops at Pets at Home Gloucester, said, “We bought the lemon collection due to the recent hot weather, and we loved the pattern! We knew Milo would love the hat in particular. We're planning to return to buy the matching dog walking accessories too.”

How handsome does Lennie look in our 3 Peaks harness?

One-year-old Lennie is all set for his first ever holiday with owner Millie this summer, and she’s shared his must haves from Pets at Home. She said, “Lennie’s must have summer items are a cooling bandana, paddling pool and, of course, his new 3 Peaks gear! His first holiday is going to be to Paignton in Devon, where he will spend lots of time on walks, at the beach and eating doggy friendly ice cream.”

Today is the start of our annual Pets Foundation summer appeal, and this year we are partnering with Blue Cross UK to help feed local families in need.

We believe that nobody should have to choose between feeding themselves or their pets. That's why this summer we’re working with Blue Cross to help pets stay where they belong: with their families.

When two tiny kittens were discovered in a bucket of oil by a kind member of public, the team at Vets4Pets Blackwood sprang into action to nurse them back to health.

The six-week-old strays were found in a dark alleyway, covered in oil. The practice team worked tirelessly to clean them up with multiple baths before taking it in turns feeding and caring for the malnourished pair. Vet nurse Laura, who also volunteers for Cats Protection - Gwent Branch even took them home over the evenings and weekend to ensure they received round-the-clock-care before finding their new home.

Practice Manager Clair, who adopted one of the kittens, said, “It was a team effort to look after the kittens while they recovered from their ordeal. They arrived frightened and mistrusting, but with lots of kindness and patience from Laura and the rest of the team, they are now thriving.”
