No matter how many ultrasound scans I perform each year, finding twins never loses its magic. ✨

When I scanned beautiful Maeve, I identified 8 foetal sacs, including one very special surprise — twins sharing a placenta. Seeing two tiny heartbeats together on the screen was truly incredible and a moment I’ll never forget.

I’m delighted to share that Maeve went on to have exactly the number of puppies I scanned, including the twins. Sadly, we don’t know which two puppies in the litter are the twins, but they’re in there somewhere!

Maeve went into labour and all was going well, but unfortunately the twins attempted to enter the birth canal and became stuck. Thankfully, she was taken straight to the veterinary team and underwent a Caesarean section.

Wishing Maeve a smooth recovery and lots of precious moments with her beautiful babies. ❤️

A little peek inside one very sweet Dachshund mum-to-be! 🐾❤️

This scan shows one of seven developing puppies growing safely in the womb. Using Colour Doppler ultrasound, we can visualise blood flow to and from the heart.

Ultrasound scanning is a wonderful way to monitor pregnancy, check the wellbeing of the developing puppies, and share those precious first glimpses with excited owners.

These beautiful babies are already receiving everything they need from their mum, and their family was absolutely delighted to see them on screen today.

We can’t wait to follow their journey over the coming weeks! 🐶💕

Happy Bank Holiday weekend everyone! Hope you’ve all had a lovely one… back to work tomorrow 😊

While my days are usually filled with tiny heartbeats and puppy/kitten counts, sometimes I find things that simply can’t be ignored.

During this girl’s 4-week scan, 7 healthy foetal sacs were identified! However, I also spotted an abnormality in her bladder. While I often see bladder crystals (which can usually be managed with diet), this was different. Using colour Doppler, I was able to identify a vascular growth.

I referred this patient to a veterinarian who confirmed the abnormality to be a bladder polyp. The plan is to let her focus on being a mum first, and the polyp will be removed once the puppies have arrived.

Such findings are shared and reviewed in consultation with Catherine Stowell of the Animal Ultrasound Association. Her extensive expertise ensures the highest standard of care and informed decision-making for every patient.

This case is a reminder that pregnancy scanning isn’t always straightforward. Having the experience and the right technology to look at the "bigger picture" can truly make a difference in a pet's life.

Wishing this beautiful girl a smooth pregnancy and a healthy litter!
