Meet Loren, one of our inspiring HE students!
Loren began her journey with an Access to HE Diploma in Animal Science at Derby College, drawn by our convenient location near Chesterfield and the opportunity to build a strong foundation for her future.

🧑‍🎓That foundation led her to progress onto the FdSc Equine Science degree, where she enjoyed an excellent learning environment, supportive staff, and the unique chance to combine academic study with hands-on experience in an equine setting.

🐴Now, Loren is continuing her education with a BSc (Top-Up) in Equine Science, Management, and Training at Broomfield Equestrian Centre, in partnership with the University of Derby. Her ultimate goal? A career specializing in equine nutrition.

Put on your best Christmas Fancy dress and join us on Saturday 13th December for a day full of Christmas fun!

📕This event is ran and organised by level 3 second year students!
📸Daxpics will be on-site to capture all your fantastic moments!
🤵‍♀️Judged by the amazing Kirsty Forsyth.
🍔Becky’s Burger van will be onsite to keep everyone well-fed.
🎅Prizes awarded for best senior and junior fancy dress.

Entries close on the 10th of December at 7pm. Times will be posted to Facebook on the 11th of December.

🎉 Huge congratulations to former Level 3 student Poppy, who was a finalist at the Land-Based & Environment Learner Awards 2025 last night! 🌿🐴🙌

Poppy completed our Level 3 Technical Extended Diploma in Equine Management last academic year with an incredible Triple Distinction*.
During her time at DCG, she showed outstanding positivity, determination, and a true passion for equine welfare-all while growing in confidence. 🤩

This national recognition is a fantastic achievement and a credit to Poppy and DCG. She was up against strong competition from land-based colleges across the UK, so reaching the finals is truly exceptional! 👏

We had a great time showing local MP Jonathan Davies around our equestrian centre today! 🐴

He met some of our lovely horses, learned about our work with The Blue Cross, the higher education courses we run and how we use the Equine Carbon Calculator here at college.

We finished the visit in the arena watching our students practise their Christmas dressage pieces 🎄🐎

Meet Natasha Brown!

After completing her A-Levels, Natasha took her passion for horses to the next level by joining the FdSc Equine Science course at Derby College, and now she’s topping up to a full BSc (Hons) in Equine Science (Biomechanics and Performance)!

Her love for horses and curiosity about how they move and perform inspired her to choose this path. Natasha especially enjoys the biology side of the course and is excited to turn that interest into a career in equine science. If you’re thinking about studying something you truly love, Natasha’s journey shows just how rewarding it can be!

Let’s be honest… filling haynets is nobody’s favourite job 😅

Luckily, our Level 3 Equine students joined forces with Agriculture to design and build haynet fillers for their Estate Skills unit. We get through so many haynets every day, and now thanks to their hard work, the job is faster and easier!
