🔬 Hands-On Learning in Action! 🐎

Our Level 6 BSc degree students have recently completed a detailed equine leg dissection as part of their programme, an invaluable opportunity to connect theory with practice.

This experience has strengthened their understanding of equine exercise physiology and biomechanics, giving real insight into how structure supports movement and performance. It has also allowed students to develop essential laboratory skills, from anatomical identification to precise handling techniques.

A fantastic effort from all involved, great to see such engagement with applied science! 👏

Update: Strangles Case

We wanted to provide a further update following our previous message regarding our confirmed isolated strangles case.

Unfortunately, the affected horse is still testing positive, and as a result, our lockdown period has been extended for the time being. The affected horse is doing well and showing no outward signs or symptoms.

While we appreciate this is disappointing, all current precautions and biosecurity measures will remain in place until we receive full veterinary clearance.

Importantly, we would like to reassure everyone that there has been no spread within the yard. This remains a single, isolated case, and all other horses continue to show no symptoms.

Daily monitoring is ongoing in line with veterinary guidance to ensure the continued health and wellbeing of all horses on site.
We will keep you updated as soon as we are given the all-clear and truly appreciate everyone’s patience, understanding, and cooperation during this time.

Students can continue to attend college as normal and will be briefed on site.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Thank you, again, for your continued support 🧡

Spider’s confidence journey 🕷️💛

After over a decade with only one companion, Spider is learning to trust, explore and work more independently. Our students have done an amazing job supporting him every step of the way 👏

Long reining has become one of his favourite groundwork activities, so today we took things a step further — leaving the arena and heading out into the field for a long rein hack! 🌿🐴

A huge confidence boost for Spider and a brilliant learning experience for our students too, developing their handling, communication and horsemanship skills along the way.

Our ED2 students are in full swing preparing for their BHS Stage 2 exam next month 🐴✨

Both horses and riders are now confidently jumping courses at Stage 2 height - and absolutely smashing it! 💪

In their exam, they’ll jump part of a course on one horse before switching to complete a full course on another, giving them the chance to really show off their riding toolkit 🌟

Here’s Lilly and Barney flying over the spread 🐎💨

It’s been fantastic to watch our riders’ progress - and see our horses’ confidence grow alongside them 💚

A huge congratulations to the Equine Science degree students, who've officially handed in their dissertations - what an incredible achievement!

They've tackled big questions, shown real curiosity, and produced work they should be genuinely proud of.

From testing ammonia levels in horse housing and improving equine welfare, to exploring the role of the horse in ceremony and policing, you’ve shown just how diverse and meaningful equine studies can be. Add to that investigations into whether horses have a preference for colour and discovering what enrichment horses really enjoy, and it’s clear this cohort has thought deeply about both the science and the heart of horsemanship. 🐎

Take a moment to celebrate, this was no small task. You’ve demonstrated resilience, research skills, and passion for the industry, and that deserves recognition. Well done all of you… now take a breath and enjoy that well-earned sense of accomplishment!
🎓✨

So proud of you all! 👏 The final push is on!!
