After graduating from the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies in 2020, I briefly moved back to my home town in Yorkshire for a short stint in small animal and equine practice. Realising that I missed Scotland too much, I moved back to the Borders in 2021 and added farm animals to my mixed practice repertoire! After a few years in true mixed practice, I moved into equine only practice with some small animal locum work on the side, and started at Eden Vets as an equine only vet in May 2025. I enjoy all aspects of equine practice, but have a particular interest in equine reproduction and internal medicine.
During my free time I can usually be found riding my pocket-rocket Connemara mare, trying my hand at gardening or working my dog during the shooting season.

New Strangles Vaccine

With the recent launch of Strangvac the strangles vaccine. The manufacturer is supporting a vaccine amnesty. This means that if a horse gets the first vaccination in April there is no charge for the second vaccination (a visit fee would still apply).
The drug companies literature says that this will reduce the clinical signs of strangles. There is no claim that it will stop the infection or shedding of strangles.
The licensed vaccination regime is 2 injections at a 4 week interval.

We have unfortunately had a cat handed in that has been hit by a car between Ceres and Pitscottie.
He is a black neutered male that is not microchipped. If he is yours please phone the practice on 01334 650888. If he isn't can you share this post to help us find the owner.

Ross would like me to pass on a big thank you to everyone who has left kind words, farewell messages and presents.

He wanted to say he has genuinely enjoyed the last 5 years working with everyone and getting to know his colleagues, clients and all the horses he has had the pleasure of meeting throughout Fife and he wishes you all the absolute best for the future.

It is with great sadness that I am letting you know that Ross Syme has decided to leave Eden Veterinary practice.
His last day will be the 28th February.
Over the last five years Ross has helped develop the Equine part of the practice and we have seen it grow from being Pete and him to the current four purely equine vets (plus myself and now Laura).
We would all like to wish him the very best for the future and hope that he will continue to keep in touch.

We have a new vet starting with us today. Laura Rennie is an experienced vet. Who has worked in the Fife area as a vet for the last 18 years. We are delighted to have her joining the team.

STRAY CAT

We have had a stray cat brought in to the practice.
The cat is a young male black and white domestic shorthair. He is entire and has no microchip. He was brought in from the Glenrothes area. If you believe he could be yours then please contact us.
