The heatwave’s finally easing off, which can only mean one thing…

It’s time to grab the lead, pack the bag, and head out in search of some trails again.

It’s been a tough old week for us dog families, right? Walks postponed, every possible tactic deployed to keep those paws cool, and hands up if you’ve been endlessly topping up the paddling pool.

But finally, we’ve got some cooler air and a chance to stretch those legs again.

Just remember, if you’re ever unsure, check the ground with the back of your hand and stick to the 5 second rule 🐾

Thank you to for capturing this shot on our recent community hike

One whole year ago today we picked up the keys to our little shop in Crickhowell (where has the time gone)

At the time, we honestly had no idea quite how much work this would be, how we’d do things we’ve never done before and how much we just had to give it a go, but we also didn’t realise how much this place would come to mean to us.

Over the past year we’ve learnt that running a small shop is equal parts exciting, exhausting, rewarding and slightly chaotic. We’ve met so many wonderful people (and dogs, some new faces and also so many people we’ve chatted to on social media and not met yet, had conversations we’ll remember forever, and built something that genuinely feels like home.

There have been quiet days where we questioned everything, busy days where we forgot to eat lunch, and moments where we stood in the shop after closing and thought “we actually did this.”

Thank you for supporting our tiny business this past year. Whether you’ve shopped with us, visited us, shared a post, recommended us to a friend or simply stopped to say hello, it means more than you probably realise.

Here’s to year two ✌️

We had a multiday hike planned, but we never made it.

Our original plan was 27 miles over 3 days, with two nights camping along the way, and we were beyond excited for it. If you popped into the shop recently, there’s a good chance we chatted about it with huge smiles on our faces!

Our girl turns 10 this year and is still in amazing shape, but heat like this, combined with her “no off switch” attitude, could have made things dangerous very quickly. As much as we wanted the adventure, her safety had to come first.

So instead, we’ve swapped big miles for slower days and cooler routines. Super early morning walks in shaded spots, lots of water breaks, paddles in streams, and/or evening strolls once the temperatures safely drop. Dogs don’t always show us when they’re struggling, and they can’t regulate their body temperature the way we can, so it’s up to us to make those careful choices for them.

The hike can wait. Right now, we’re just happy spending time looking after our little fur covered tornado the best way we can.

Do you agree?

When we stop to take in a view and Lola looks around, I always wonder what she’s thinking. You know what I’m thinking? How lush Lola is!

What do you mean this is...

If you’re craving starry skies, rolling landscapes and stories older than the mountains themselves, Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) delivers every time.

Hike across Pen y Fan at sunrise, wander through historic market towns, discover castles, wildlife, waterfalls, ancient woodlands, iron forts, standing stones and legends woven into the landscape.

The area is rich in Welsh folklore and mythology too, tales of lakes, giants and magical creatures still echo through the valleys.

Bannau Brycheiniog is one of Wales’ most inspiring places to explore.
