A clever design that’s beautifully made. It keeps me warm and dry when out working and training with the dogs.

So I have been away from my training page and training for a few days and at the moment working on a project so I thought I would show what I have been up to ……

Each year in the calendar sits the Game Fair and the HPR Home International competition. As most of you know I am involved in the HPR and dog world with my own dogs as part of Rebelritsi Gundogs and occasionally some of you will see me out with my camera as Rebelritsi photography.
This year I was not directly involved in the dog side however it was an honour to be asked by Howard to join him and his team from Mullenscote and take my camera so that I could document the occasion as a whole and everyone involved but most importantly the dogs.
I had a fabulous time although on the day it was incredibly hot day and the ground didn’t make life easy for me to get the images that I wanted. However I have made a visual story through my eye and the camera to help illustrate the day and translate the event in the way that I saw it.
I will be posting some of my work over this next few days for everyone to see.
There will be a page that I will share later in the week where images can be bought from if anyone particularly likes any the photos and would like to keep some of them as prints or digital copies for memories.

Don’t get overwhelmed by thinking you are needing hours everyday to train.
Fit your training in to your everyday life together with your dog. It’s amazing what you can build by taking small moments and using them as an opportunity to train something with your dog.
A sit and wait whilst you open the gate, a little bit of heel work whilst on your way to the gate, a visit to a new place for some environmental training and learning, whilst waiting at the vets having a practice at getting your dog used to using the scales as a bit of placeboard training,
What else can you use as a training opportunity in your daily routine?

Putting all the different elements together to build a picture for your dog to understand. Teaching your dog your different hand signals, body movements and voice commands so that they understand what you are asking. Once they understand and can work at different distances it opens up a whole world of what’s possible to do and achieve as a partnership.

With some of my clients taking part in the GSP Sussex branch working test at the weekend it was great to see how everyone got on. Proud of everyone’s achievements in the tests and it’s lovely to have Gill and her GSP River be awarded 3rd in ND/NH, Monika and her Vizsla Darwin achieve a 2nd in the Novice.

Keepa negotiating her exit from water after a long blind.
Dogs need time to allow them to grow and learn. Every dog is different and it takes time and patience and building up the layers within their training so that they can understand what you are asking. Once you have got your dog confidently retrieving from land and achieving then you can build the same with water. Some dogs are more confident in water than others. Some dogs are more retrieve driven than others. Train the dog in front of you and help them learn so that they can achieve and understand what you are asking both on land and from water.

Getting that delivery to hand from water 💦

Teaching the dogs to give you the dummy after their water retrieve and before they shake the water off of them. Some dogs find it easier than others, you want a solid delivery on land and then work on it from water.
If it’s not happening from water then some time and patience and training is needed to help work out how the individual dog works and the best way to teach them what you require.

In the stillness of the water 💦

Using the Soft Mouth water dummy in white to help build confidence on water retrieves as the dogs can easily see it when put out in the water and helps draw the dogs out, the soft mouth design gives a soft supple feel to mimic a birds body.
