Every dog is an individual and needs different input both mentally and physically to support them as they grow and change through their life.

Finding people that you trust to work with you and your dogs is an important part of supporting your dogs through their life. Giving them the best opportunities through their development from puppy hood to old age is an integral part of their care and well being in life.

Finding has been a great addition for us to help meet our dogs needs.

A wonderful partnership they work together to get the best from our dogs through their hydrotherapy work. From confidence giving and fun swims to more specific hydrotherapy for specific physical needs. A very special place that gives our dogs so much.

I am so proud of these two….

From picking up and dropping a squeaky ball to learning to work with dummies and be handled on to retrieves. Learning How to work with her owner to hunt and work for beating in a line to learning to pick cold game and moving to warm shot game.

Not all Gundog work is done by Gundog breeds and not all dogs whether Gundog or another breed are trained and then follow on to be used as working dogs on shoots.

The training and the learning for handler and dog opens up their world together and creates a partnership which helps create a well trained dog but also gives them an outlet both physically and mentally.

It’s working out what is possible with a dog and where that takes you in the journey is up to you.

Apache now is 24 weeks….
He is a joy to share my days with. Learning to be my work partner he makes the journey a pleasure. We have moved at home from the streams to the big pond.
The last few days he has amazed me how he has pieced together all the information I have told him about and shown him.
It’s our own journey but it’s this stuff that makes me smile inside. It’s a joy to see him grow from day 1 to week 24 with so much trust and belief as my team mate, almost an old soul he is an interesting pup and already teaches me many things.

No pressure just painting a picture together that is being created day by day ❤️

Building up the layers

Teaching him to use his brain and body to negotiate what’s in front of him

Everyday is a school day ….. the wonderful time of having puppy and as they grow opening up the world to them so that they can flourish.

Monday morning with Apache

For me it’s the perfect start to the weekend.

Less is more ….. Taking time to go out with our dogs and work on the things we need. Little and often and specific.

Everyday is a school day for our dogs. With the right guidance and help the world can open up for you with your dog or dogs.

This morning Apache did his longest walk out on lead with me bless him. He had also never been to this area as never walked that far but everyday we practice a little bit and a little bit more.
Different places, different distractions, different surfaces to walk on.

Don’t expect your dogs to go on a lead and then walk for long lengths of distance or time without them having the knowledge of what you require and how they do it.

It’s the thing we usually do everyday but probably the thing that people are least consistent with in their training with their dogs when out and about.

It’s also making sure you as owners and handlers have the right skill set and learning for yourself to be able to help teach your dog.

It’s the weekend with … 🌟

We all want to drive a Ferrari ….BUT

How many of us are advanced in our driving skills to be able to handle one out on the roads ! Without the knowledge and skills to feel what we are driving it won’t be long before there is a car crash 💥

High drive dogs are great fun but do they suit our daily life and do we have the time and patience to put in the work to learn how to work with them.

Choosing the right breed for you that suits your lifestyle
Choosing the right breeding within that breed is also important. Within the same breed there are differences of type. Do your homework as different breeders breed different types of dogs.

Get out and train your dog. If you want to gain more knowledge find a trainer that suits you and your dog. Give yourself and your dog a focus. Learn together. A trained dog is a happy dog.

Enjoy the journey …. You never know where it might take you 🌟👌

As our puppies grow and change it’s important to help teach them so they learn to settle and do nothing.

We can become so worried about the doing that it’s often forgotten to teach the not doing.

It may look like Apache isn’t leaning anything as he lays down but he is.

Relax
Calm
Patience
Settle

Watching but not needing to be involved in everything around us.

An important lesson for all dogs in their learning for everyday life.

A day of working with placeboards.

Handlers worked with the boards and their dogs to improve their handling and accuracy.
The boards help improve precision for both handler and dog whilst creating a place which is low pressure but also very black and white for the dogs to learn in.

Today allowed handlers to learn about their own body movements and how they affect their dogs movements, actions and behaviour whilst training together.
With each exercise both handlers and dogs had time to process and learn.

An interesting and rewarding day of learning.

I am blessed in my work ….
Not only do I get to work and train people and dogs but also I get to have time when I don’t train and instead I photograph them.

I have worked with animals all my life and have accomplished passing exams in dog training as well as my years of hands on experience with many dogs to include both my own and clients. However also my back ground has included a long time spent in art and design which includes my MA from the Royal college of Art.

I spend hours watching and observing everything that I see and feel and this links through from all my years of learning and education. From growing up in the countryside to working with animals and competing to my high level of education in design and art.

You learn so much by watching and when I get the chance I love to sit with my camera. No training just time to sit watch and predict and then relating what I see through the camera to other people in the images I produce.

I am incredibly lucky that over the years I have been able to sit in a field for many hours with my camera and work with the rather special and watch the wonderful dynamics between this lovely couple and their beautiful dogs 🙏

Whilst you sit you watch you learn. Behind my camera I always see and learn. In every aspect of my life with the dogs I learn everyday 🌟👌

I wouldn’t have it any other way !

It’s definitely a lifestyle choice. I really enjoy the weather improving now with the longer days as it allows me to take more time outside with my own dogs.

It’s always a work/life balance for all of us. For me when I finish working with clients and their dogs it’s so important that my own dogs get me time wether that’s doing specific training or having a cuddle, having a walk together and just generally enjoying each others company.

So it’s definitely a kind of dogs, dogs and dogs life for me
