Meet one of nature’s most striking arachnids — the Indian Ornamental Tarantula (Poecilotheria regalis). Native to the lush forests of southern India and Sri Lanka, these arboreal beauties live high among tree hollows, where they use their lightning-fast reflexes and cryptic camouflage to thrive.

Don’t be fooled by their elegance — these spiders are extremely quick and highly defensive, making them a species for experienced keepers only. Though their venom is not lethal to humans, it packs a painful punch, reminding us that beauty often comes with a warning!

The Mandarin Ratsnake (Euprepiophis mandarinus) is often called one of the most beautiful snakes in the world!
With their striking black and yellow banding and calm temperament, they’re a favourite among reptile keepers and photographers alike.

But here’s the really cool part…
Mandarin ratsnakes come from the cool, forested mountain regions of China, Vietnam, and Thailand — and unlike most snakes, they actually prefer lower temperatures!
Too much heat can stress them out, so they thrive in cooler, well-ventilated enclosures.

Nature’s little gem that proves not all snakes love it hot!

Some of you might have noticed that Katie has been mysteriously missing from the shop for the last two whole days!!
Don’t worry — she hasn’t run off to start a tortoise commune or gone missing in the rainforest.

She’s been away attending a very important REPTA meeting, representing KBN Reptiles for the first time since being voted onto the REPTA board earlier this year!

We’re so proud (and maybe just a little starstruck) to be working alongside some of the biggest names in the reptile industry — all pushing for better welfare, stronger education, and the protection of responsible reptile keeping in the UK.
