✔️ Avoid walks in the heat of the day

Warmer weather means more time outdoors, but it also brings adders. 🐍

Although it is relatively rare for pets to experience adder bites, it can happen, especially in grassy or woodland areas.

Signs to watch for:
⚠️ Sudden swelling (often on the face or leg)
⚠️ Pain or limping
⚠️ Lethargy
⚠️ Collapse (in severe cases)

What to do:
✔️ Keep your pet calm
✔️ Seek veterinary attention immediately
✔️ Avoid walking them if possible

Quick treatment makes all the difference.

🐾 Veterinary Nursing Awareness Month 🐾

Week 3: Empathy 🌈

Empathy is non-negotiable in veterinary care. Vets and nurses need to understand not just what a pet needs but what their owner is going through too.

Every visit, every conversation, every treatment plan is guided by sensitivity, respect and understanding.

Because caring for pets also means caring for people.

Is your pet constantly scratching, even though you’ve only seen one flea? It could be flea allergy dermatitis.

Some pets are allergic to flea saliva, meaning just one bite can cause:
🐾 Intense itching
🐾 Hair loss
🐾 Red, irritated skin
🐾 Scabs or sores

Prevention is key:
✔️ Use regular flea treatment
✔️ Treat all pets in the household
✔️ Keep bedding and environments clean

If your pet is uncomfortable, we’re here to help.💙

Be sure to book an appointment if you suspect your pet may have flea allergy dermatitis.

Every pet has their own quirky personality…

Some zoom around the house at 9pm, others “talk” back, and some insist on sitting in the most inconvenient places. 😄

Week 2: Mental Health 🧠

Caring for animals is incredibly rewarding, but it can also be emotionally demanding.

Veterinary nursing professionals:
💙 Handle high-pressure situations
💙 Support families through difficult decisions
💙 Care deeply for every patient

That’s why mental health awareness is so important in our profession. Looking after those who care for your pets helps ensure the best care possible for them too.

🐴 World Donkey Day 🐴

Today, we are celebrating the wonderful world of donkeys!

Did you know…?
✨ Donkeys have incredible memories and can recognise places and other donkeys even after many years
✨ Their big ears don’t just look cute; they help keep them cool and give them excellent hearing
✨ Donkeys are highly intelligent and very cautious (often mistaken for being “stubborn”)
✨ They form strong bonds, particularly with other donkeys, and can become stressed if separated from their companions
✨ A donkey’s bray can be heard up to 3km away!

Just like any animal, donkeys need proper care, including regular health checks, hoof care, a balanced diet, and companionship.

Bad breath in pets isn’t just unpleasant; it could be a sign of dental disease.

By the age of 3, most dogs and cats show signs of dental issues, including:
🦷 Tartar build-up
🩸 Red or bleeding gums
😖 Pain when eating
🤢 Persistent bad breath

If left untreated, dental disease can lead to infections and affect organs like the heart and kidneys. What can help:
✔️ Regular dental checks
✔️ Tooth brushing (yes, really!)
✔️ Dental diets or chews
✔️ Professional cleaning when needed

Healthy teeth mean a happier, more comfortable pet.

🐾Veterinary Nursing Awareness Month🐾

Week 1: Compassion ❤️

Compassion is at the heart of everything we do.

Whether it’s comforting a nervous pet, supporting worried owners, or providing gentle care during difficult moments, compassion guides every decision.

Veterinary teams shouldn’t just treat animals. We should care for them as if they were our own.

It’s the quiet reassurance, the extra cuddle, and the patience shown in every interaction that truly makes a difference.

We’d love to hear your experiences in the comments.
