This seems to be the time of year when we start seeing more young hedgehogs coming into care that are sick, injured, underweight and struggling to cope on their own. Young hedgehogs need special attention to make sure they are healthy, gaining weight and reaching the target weight they need before they can safely face the challenges of life back in the wild.
These two little ones recently came into care and were absolutely infested with ticks. 😔 Ticks can be a serious burden for small, vulnerable hedgehogs so removing them and getting them stabilised is an important part of their recovery.
Every gram counts with these little ones. Regular weighing, appropriate food, warmth, treatment and plenty of care can make all the difference
Please remember, if you find a hedgehog out during the day, particularly if it looks small, weak, injured or unwell, don’t assume it is fine and leave it. It may need help 🦔💚 Contact your nearest vet practice or wildlife rehabilitator if you are concerned.
