I am the inspiration behind Hugo's Pawtisserie, well, my appetite is! My mum loves me so much, I know this because she gives me treats every day! Thing is, I am intolerant to wheat and have all kinds of allergies, so sometimes store bought treats upset my tummy. With this in mind, Mum decided to start baking natural treats. She takes the time to research each and every ingredient so I can be sure that the treats I love to eat will love me back!

Life is loud now — relentlessly tiring — juggling a full-time job with eight paws and two little feet.

Despite that, when I’m asked to bake, I’ll always find the time. And this is why.

I’m reminded of Hugo — his little head tilt, his inquisitive soulful eyes, begging to taste test.

His bark alerting me that the timer was going off and his patience was wearing thin.

I think about the countless cakes I baked over the years, especially the ones bought in support of his fundraiser. The love of strangers helped prolong his time with us, and I’ll never forget that kindness.

I think about how much I love him unconditionally, and how the people who order cakes for their own fur babies must feel that same deep love for theirs too.

It becomes a quiet, reflective time where I feel everything all at once — the love, the loss, the gratitude.

Tonight, as I baked, a robin started singing outside the kitchen window. I wanted to see it as a sign — Hugo letting me know he’s okay. But anyone who knew him would agree he didn’t have robin energy. He was more like a Jay; Very active and intelligent, a whole variety of loud, with a raucous squawk to communicate and defend territory.

I’m thankful to everyone who still messages me to place a cake order. I don’t get many requests these days, but it’s never really been about the £20 cash. It’s about the reflection, the memories, and the love.

Thank you for continuing to keep Hugo’s legacy alive 🤍
