Let's give credit to our dogs on World Mental Health Day! Especially some of those we've featured recently 😁 (say hi if you're in the pics!)

Our dogs can completely change your mood. 🐾 A wagging tail, a cuddle on the sofa, a walk that clears your head – they’re brilliant at lifting us up. This World Mental Health Day we’re celebrating all the ways dogs boost our wellbeing: exercise, companionship, routine and confidence.

How does your dog lift your mood? ❤️ Tell us in the comments with a pic or example!

(PS, if things with your dog are feeling more stressful than supportive, give us a call – we might be able to help.)

Please join us in giving a warm welcome to Heather, our new scentwork and hoopers trainer here at Sussex County Dog Training. 👋❤️

Heather first discovered scentwork during lockdown in 2020 as a way to build her puppy’s confidence – and it quickly became a real passion. Since then, she’s gone on to compete, qualify as a SWUK trainer and judge, and now helps dogs and their owners unlock all the brilliant benefits of scentwork.

Heather is available for 121 sessions on Saturdays and Tuesday evenings – we’re so excited for you and your dogs to meet her! ❤️

A beautiful sky to end a great afternoon and evening teaching Gundog classes and 121s. Hunting was our focus today and all the dogs made great progress.

Anyone else’s dog trying to dive nose-first into the bowl and sending it crashing?! 😅

Challenge 3 is giving space at the food bowl. Teaching your dog to pause while you put their food down builds patience, reduces frustration, and makes mealtimes calmer for everyone.

Show us your practice and keep going ahead of our virtual dog show on 18th October! 🐾 Prizes to be won from Natural Choice Pet Foods

The pay off. ❤️ We asked Emma, what’s the best thing about having Mimi? Is all the hard work worthwhile?

“Due to Mimi’s past experiences with humans, the fact that she’s learnt to put her trust in me has been so rewarding. She is bright and so affectionate (if she could have cuddles 24/7, she would!) – she puts a smile on my face every day.” 🐶

We hope you’ve found Emma and Mimi’s story inspiring. It is possible to turn around really difficult situations and behaviours, to go from neglect to love, chaos to confidence, and love life together. ❤️

If you’d like to share and celebrate your journey so far, we’d love to hear from you. 🐾

“If a spaniel can do it, any dog can!”

Week 2 and we’re getting stuck in to loose lead walking – one of the hardest skills, but one that makes every walk more enjoyable! This one’s going to take time and practice but you can do it!

Get practicing for the virtual dog show on 18th October and share with anyone who has a pully dog!

Good luck! And well done Josie for a great video 😊

I am so proud to write this post and congratulate Katie Essam Wilcox and her black Labrador Solo.
They first joined our Gundog classes 2.5yrs ago when Solo was 14months old. Since then they have showed up each week in class, in all weathers, and worked tirelessly to build their relationship. There have been lots of challenges along the way but they have kept pushing on and worked through our Gundog Levels Scheme.
Last week I was able to award them their Level 4 certificate and Levels Champion Rosette which was truly deserved!
