These tiny baby hedgehogs were brought in to the surgery today in need of supportive care.

After a general health check and some intensive care nursing, they were kindly collected and transported to a rescue and rehabilitation centre 💜

A happy story of collaboration, working together to help wildlife 🦔🦔🦔🦔

Meet Sophie RVN

Sophie trained with Archway and qualified in 2024, going back to uni to "top up" her qualification to a degree.

Sophie brings laughter and lightness to the team with her quick wit and fun persona.

Sophie is particularly fond of rabbits and enjoys nursing wildlife, which poses unique challenges and requires a completely different skill set to nursing domestic species.

Sophie enjoys the medical side of nursing, ensuring patients are comfortable during thier hospital stay - she will often be found offering emotional support to our more nervous patients, helping reduce stress.

*Ticks*

Don't forget to check your pets (and yourselves) for hitchhikers!

This time of year ticks are out in their masses looking for their next meal, they start as small as a pin head, but quickly increase in size as they feed.

✅ Check pets daily after walks
✅ Use parasite prevention regularly
✅ Remove ticks promptly
✅ Dispose of ticks effectively (they will latch on again)
✅ Utilise a tick twister to gently remove

❌ Do not pull ticks off - they may leave their mouthparts in your pet
❌ Do not burn ticks off - this may cause regurgitation (which can transmit disease to your pet)

If you are not sure what you are seeing is a tick, or are worried about removing one yourself, book in to see one of our RVNs for removal.

If you think you need to cover your pet for tick prevention and aren't part of our pet health club - book in with one of our vets to get tailored advice and a prescription to help keep pests at bay.

It's set to be a glorious bank holiday weekend 🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞

With this in mind (and the summer months fast approaching), watch out for all of our furry companions with the expected temperature rises!

✅ Provide constant access to clean, fresh water
✅ Only walk in the cooler parts of the day
✅ Avoid strenuous play
✅ Utilise cooling breaks
✅ Create extra shade spots in the garden
✅ Avoid travelling in the car - if travelling with your pet is necessary, utilise air-conditioning and encourage air flow with open windows and regular breaks
