We are currently working with this gentle giant. He is 12 months old, meaning he is still very excitable and learning how to manage his emotions around distractions.

Due to his size, both dogs and owners can sometimes find him intimidating on walks, even though his intention is simply to play and interact.

This behaviour has likely developed from early experiences where most dog interactions were encouraged only off-lead, which can unintentionally build high excitement and frustration when seeing other dogs on-lead.

We are now working on building calmness, improving focus on his handler, and teaching him how to remain neutral around other dogs while out on walks.

The goal is not to take the fun away from him, but to give him the structure and control needed so walks become enjoyable, relaxed, and safe for both him and his owner.

Deaf Puppy Training… 🐾🤍

This little girl came to Cotswold Dog Training this week at just 12 weeks old.

The only difference? She’s completely deaf.

Her owner was understandably worried… but the truth is, training a deaf puppy isn’t harder — it’s just different. Dogs naturally read body language far quicker than verbal commands anyway.

In her very first lesson she learned:

✔ Recall
✔ Sit
✔ Down
✔ Stay
✔ Started toilet training on cue

All using clear hand signals and positive reinforcement.

Training is important for every puppy — but it’s especially important for deaf dogs. Without early structure and communication, confusion can turn into stress, anxiety and even reactivity.

We’re so proud to be part of her journey and to give her the best possible start in life.

Deaf doesn’t mean limited. It just means we communicate differently. 🤍

🎁🐾 Happy Boxing Day! 🐾🎁
Our pups might love leftovers… but not everything is safe to share!

While you’re enjoying the festive treats, remember that some Christmas foods are a BIG no-no for dogs 🚫🐶

❌ Poisonous / dangerous for dogs:
• Mince pies & Christmas pudding (raisins/sultanas)
• Chocolate
• Cooked bones (especially poultry)
• Onions, garlic & leeks
• Stuffing & gravy
• Alcohol
• Nuts (especially macadamia)
• Xylitol (found in some sweets & chewing gum)

✅ Safe alternatives:
• Dog treats
• Plain cooked turkey without seasoning or bones
• Carrots, green beans or a lick of dog-safe peanut butter

Let’s keep Boxing Day happy, healthy, and vet-free 🐕💚

🐾 Does your dog bark at people indoors or outdoors?
You’re not alone — and your dog isn’t being “naughty”.
Most reactivity comes from fear, uncertainty or past experiences… and it’s one of the most common issues we help with at Cotswold Dog Training.

This lovely girl in the photo is working through exactly that.
With the right guidance, reactivity can improve — and dogs learn to feel calmer, safer and more confident in everyday life.

✔️ Building confidence
✔️ Reducing fear-based reactions
✔️ Teaching calmer alternative behaviours
✔️ Helping you understand why your dog reacts
✔️ Creating a personalised training plan that works in the real world

If your dog struggles with barking, lunging, or feeling overwhelmed, we’re here to support you both.

👉 Message us to book a fear-reactivity assessment and start your dog’s confidence journey.

Can’t teach an old dog new tricks!? No such thing, it just takes a little bit longer than a young dog.

Meet Arthur! This 11 year old boy has just started training with us, he is currently reactive in the garden, reactive to other dog, reactive to noises including fireworks plus a few other bits! He not naughty or a bad dog… he is nervous and struggling to deal with the world!

Over the next few weeks we will be building his confidence, desensitising him to noises, training him to be happy around other dogs and more!
Can’t wait to see him enjoying life more by being more confident ❤️🐾
