Duggie and I enjoyed a different kind of ‘walk’ tonight due to the heat. We found a lovely cool and shady spot where Duggie enjoyed a treat hunt scattered in the grass before having a fun little training session.

I wasn’t looking for precision or perfection, just fun and enjoyable moments that keep Duggie interested and engaged with me while other things are going on around him.

His enjoyment and eagerness in training sessions always keep me smiling 🥰🐾

🐶 Recall Challenge 🐶

Today was Chelsea’s first recall workshop session. Chelsea loves to explore her environment and play, making recall tricky for her owners as she is easily distracted.

We spent time having some fun with Chelsea, letting her know that play time doesn’t stop when she returns to mum and we also introduced her to a whistle, building a positive association by pairing the sound with high value treats.

We then had the ultimate test as Chelsea found herself a ball, after a slightly delayed reaction she came when recalled! She then enjoyed playtime with her special find and mum as her reward.

Brilliant result for first time practice ⭐️

Puppy Social update:

Due to the devastating fire in Rettendon yesterday evening my puppy social scheduled for this morning was unable to go ahead.

🐾 Still working on recall and want a stress free walk? 🐾

A long line is an excellent tool to accompany recall training. Having one of these in your kit can allow much more freedom for your dog whilst keeping you in control and your dog safe from straying too far.

A training line comes in many lengths, allowing you a variety of options depending on where you’re at within your training and also the environment you will be using it in.

Little Woody is a rescue pup, his history is mostly unknown but he has been with his lovely new family just a few short weeks and they have done a brilliant job helping him settle into his new home and life.

Our recent sessions have been focused on developing their bond, creating a structured daily routine with enrichment, obedience training and lots of play as well as figuring out what makes him tick.

Woody has a high prey drive and can be extremely unfocused around nature, other dogs and particularly 🐿️. Today we have been practicing building focus around these distractions using treat toss games, verbal praise, food rewards and environmental rewards.

As you can see Woody did a fabulous job on his walk in the woods, walking calmly on his long line and even chose a ‘self check in’ with mum after something in the trees caught his attention instead of pursuing the distraction, which is exactly the behaviour we want 🤩!

Bringing a puppy home is the best feeling. The cuddles, the clumsiness, and the unconditional love we get from them can fill our lives with so much joy.

However, raising a puppy can also be a tough journey at times. The sleepless nights, teething, toilet training, and losing your favourite shoes to puppy chewing can all lead to frustration and despair when you no longer recognise that cute, sleepy puppy you brought home a few weeks ago.

But remember, this phase passes! With the right guidance and patience, your journey can remain fun and less stressful.
