🐾 Reactivity isn’t usually a walking problem… it’s a foundation problem.

Many reactive dogs are struggling with too much stimulation, not enough sleep, unclear boundaries and a lack of engagement with their owner.

The good news? Those things can be changed. 💕

Whether your dog reacts to dogs, people, cars or the environment, the key is addressing the cause, not just managing the symptoms.

🐾 The biggest mistakes I see puppy owners make? 🐾

Everyone wants a well-behaved dog, but a lot of people accidentally create the opposite without realising it.

❌ Too much free roam too early
❌ Too much stimulation and too many toys
❌ Not enough sleep
❌ Not teaching a switch off
❌ Over-socialisation
❌ Focusing on walks instead of engagement
❌ Not hand feeding

A puppy doesn’t need constant entertainment. They need structure, boundaries, sleep, guidance and time to learn how to be calm.

Many behaviour problems start because puppies are overtired, overstimulated and overwhelmed.

The foundations you put in place now will shape the dog you have in the future. 🐾

🐾 How do you raise a confident, well-behaved puppy? 🐾

It’s not about walking them for miles or keeping them entertained all day.

Focus on the foundations:

💤 Plenty of sleep (up to 20 hours a day)
🏠 Structure, routine and boundaries
🦴 Hand feeding and engagement
📚 Lots of learning and positive experiences
🌍 Correct socialisation (exposure over interaction)
⭐ Teaching calmness and a switch off
🤍 Consistency every single day

The goal isn’t just to survive the puppy stage. The goal is to raise a dog that can relax, listen, make good choices and enjoy life with you.

A well-behaved adult dog starts with good puppy foundations. 🐶💕

🐾 THE CUP ANALOGY 🐾

As a dog trainer, one of the biggest things I try to teach owners is that behaviour doesn’t just happen in isolation.

Dogs don’t usually “randomly react”, most of the time, their cup has simply overflowed.

Think of your dogs behaviour like a cup 🥤

Everyday life slowly fills that cup:
• Lack of sleep
• Visitors
• Other dogs
• Pulling on walks
• Staring/fixating
• Noise
• Excitement
• Changes in routine
• Not enough downtime

At first, dogs cope fine… but as the cup fills, you’ll often start seeing small signs before the “big behaviour” happens:
👀 Staring
🚶 Pulling on the lead
😵‍💫 Restlessness
🗣 Barking/whining
❌ Struggling to listen
⚡ Overreacting to things they’d normally cope with

Then the cup overflows and suddenly the dog gets labelled:
“stubborn”
“naughty”
“reactive”

When actually… they’ve just run out of capacity.

The goal isn’t just learning how to control the overflow once it happens; it’s learning how to keep the cup as low as possible in the first place and teaching dogs healthy self regulation.

That means:
✔️ Better routines
✔️ More sleep & decompression
✔️ Clear communication
✔️ Calm structure
✔️ Good life choices from the dog
✔️ Helping them stay in a mindset where they can actually make good decisions

Because dogs make the best choices when they’re calm enough to think clearly.

An empty cup = a calm dog 🐶

Need help knowing how to empty their cup and keep it low? Reach out to ask🐾

“You can’t exercise energy out of a dog.”

One of the most common bits of advice I hear is “just walk them more.”

And while exercise is obviously important, it’s not the full answer.

If all we do is add more and more physical exercise, we usually just end up creating a super fit dog that still doesn’t know how to switch off.

Dogs also need to learn things like:
• how to settle
• how to regulate their excitement
• how to focus on their handler
• how to make calm choices

That’s where training comes in.

A dog that understands how to slow down and think is often much calmer than a dog that’s just physically tired.

If your dog is constantly “go go go”, struggles to settle, pulls on the lead, or feels like they’re always on overdrive — there’s usually a reason behind it.

That’s what I help owners work through.

📩 Feel free to message me if this sounds like your dog.

Let’s talk puppies…🐾

They’re cute… but they’re also tiny land sharks with zero manners or boundaries!

In these clips you’ll see:
✨ A 13-week-old puppy walking in a beautiful heel
✨ Biting ➝ calm, settled behaviour
✨ Off-lead recall & heel in a real park with distractions

This isn’t luck.
This is what happens when you start training early and do it properly.

If you’ve got a puppy (or one coming soon) and you want:
✔️ calm walks
✔️ less biting
✔️ a dog you can actually take places

Drop me a message saying PUPPY and let’s set your pup up right from day one 🐾

In-home training gives us the full picture — your dog’s lifestyle, routine, relationships and environment all matter.
Those day-to-day details shape behaviour more than people realise.

It’s not just about stopping symptoms like pulling, barking, aggression or anxiety.
Those behaviours are signals, not the root problem.

By working in the space your dog actually lives, we can understand the cause, make targeted changes, and create lasting results that hold up in real life — not just in controlled environments.

With over a decade of professional experience, I train in your home because context is key to real behaviour and real progress.
Real dogs. Real homes. Real change.

Message to enquire or book.

🐾Does your dog do any of these? It might not be “naughty behaviour” …it might actually be early reactivity.
Many dogs show signs of stress long before they bark, lunge or growl, but most owners don’t realise what they’re seeing.

Here are five misunderstood behaviours worth paying attention to 👇

🐶 1. Staring without breaking eye contact
It may look harmless, but to other dogs this can feel threatening.
A dog who locks onto another dog is often saying, “I don’t feel safe” or “I need to control this situation.”
This is one of the first signs we tend to see in reactive dogs.

🐶 2. Freezing
If your dog suddenly pauses when another dog appears, it isn’t usually politeness.
It’s a sign their stress level has increased, and they are preparing themselves for what comes next.
This often leads to barking or lunging if left unaddressed.

🐶 3. Stalking behaviour (lying down or sitting when they see a dog)
People often think this is cute or their dog preparing to greet nicely.
In reality, it shows conflict, overfocus and rising pressure inside the dog.
It’s a big red flag, especially if it turns into lunging or barking.

🐶 4. Backing away or hiding behind you
This is your dog asking for help.
They are saying, “I don’t feel safe, please protect me.”
If support isn’t given, many dogs will eventually react out of self-protection.

🐶 5. Pulling
Pulling can be excitement, but when it happens around dogs or other triggers, it usually means your dog is overwhelmed and trying to cope.
They may want to get closer or further away but don’t know how to manage their feelings calmly.

✨ The big takeaway
Reactivity doesn’t always look explosive at first.
It often starts quietly and escalates over time.
If you recognise one or more of these behaviours, your dog isn’t being difficult — they are struggling and asking for help.

💬 Tell me in the comments which one you see most in your dog. I’d love to help you understand why it happens and what it means for them.

📩 If you want to help your dog feel safer, walk calmly and become dog neutral, send us a message.
