Being a dog groomer is so much more than just washing dogs and cutting their hair.
It’s working with dogs that have quirks, fears, phobias and worries.
It’s noticing lumps and bumps that are in awkward places that the owner hasn’t seen yet.
It’s dealing with so many different coat types and adapting your skills to work with the dog you have in front of you.
Here you have Sully the Bulldog who has never liked the hairdryer, the last time he came in he was barking a lot at it so I had to keep stopping so he didn’t become too stressed but look at him today 😁😁, what a superstar 🌟, I only used my tiny dryer but he was totally fine with it and actually really enjoyed being dried and rubbed with the towel at the same time.
I love seeing dogs being relaxed in my company and enjoying their visits to me, it really makes my day 😊💕

It was my gorgeous girls turn for a bath this morning. Daisy is a cross between a Bernese Mounatin Dog and a Border Collie, both double coated breeds so she sheds hair like crazy! The hoover is definitely the hardest working thing in our house.
Giving her a good scrub in the bath and a blow dry gets rid of all the dead hair (which is now all over my cabin 🥴) and decreases the shedding for a while. Yay 🙌🏼

It’s that time of year where I get a lot of requests to keep yours dog’s hair longer for winter to keep them warm.

In most cases this is actually the worst thing you can do, more hair means dogs staying wet and muddy for longer which means staying cold for longer.

Certain coat types act like a mop, soaking up the all the mud and moisture. Unless you are FULLY drying and brushing your dog through after wet winter walks they will stay damp for hours, making them cold and also making the skin underneath sore and itchy. It also causes matting, especially in the poodle crosses.

The best advice I can give you is to allow me to keep their belly and legs in a shorter trim as these are the areas nearest the ground soaking up all the water.

I’m so proud of this boy, it was his third visit to me today and he was soooooo much more confident than the first time.
He’s still very unsure of going up the steps to the bath so I have to lift him in but he will hop on the table all by himself now and is fine with the dryer.
He’s made massive improvements since his first visit, it makes me really happy to see these changes in dogs 🥰💙
