Well…this heatwave has officially changed our working hours! ☀️

Another heatwave means some early starts this week, moving 1-2-1s and classes around so we can get the dogs training while it’s cooler. 🐾

A lovely early start with my boy this morning, and I’m looking forward to seeing Maggie at the much earlier time of 9am tomorrow instead of 12! Her human has already warned me she’s not a morning person… 😂☕️

If you’re booked in with us this week during the heat, please keep an eye on your emails and WhatsApp group messages for any changes to your training times.

Keep cool everyone! ☀️🐾

DON’T WAIT FOR THE BARK

When a dog barks, lunges or explodes at something, it can feel as though the reaction came out of nowhere.

But quite often, the dog was communicating long before the bark happened.

Learn to spot the subtler signs that your dog is starting to struggle.

You might notice:

👀 Staring or becoming fixated
🐕 Their body becoming still or tense
👂 A change in ear or tail position
👄 Their mouth suddenly closing
⬆️ Their movements becoming quicker or more frantic
👃 Finding it harder to sniff or disengage
🍗 Taking food more roughly, or suddenly not wanting it at all
🧠 Finding previously easy cues difficult

These little changes matter.

If we wait until the dog is barking and lunging before creating distance, we’re trying to help at the hardest point.

Instead, learn what your dog’s early signs look like and respond to those.

Move further away. Let them sniff. Scatter some food. Change direction. Give them a chance to disengage.

And when your dog looks at something and then chooses to look away?

That’s gold. ✨ Reward it.

We don’t just want to stop the reaction. We want to help our dogs learn that they can notice something, process it and move on.

The earlier we listen, the less likely they are to need to shout. 💙🧡

🎪 We’ve got some new neighbours!

NoFit State Circus has set up at the United Counties Showground this month, and the doggos have been keeping a close eye on all the activity! 👀🐶

If you’re coming along to watch the circus over the next few days, why not pop around the corner and say hello? We’d love to meet you and have a chat about all things dogs.

If we’re in the middle of a class when you arrive, we may not be able to stop straight away, but if you don’t mind waiting a few minutes, we’d be happy to catch you between sessions.

If you’re planning to pop by, feel free to send us a quick message first and we’ll let you know the best time to catch us.

We hope everyone enjoys the show! 🎪🐾💙

🐾 Tuesday Training Tip 🐾

As trainers, competitors and dog owners, we often have big dreams for our dogs.

We train them to become wonderful family companions, sporting dogs, assistance dogs, working dogs or therapy dogs. We shape behaviours, build skills and celebrate their achievements.

But amongst all of that…

Don’t forget to let dogs be dogs. 💙

Give them time to sniff.
To explore.
To run.
To play.
To roll in the grass.
To splash through puddles.
To simply enjoy being a dog.

Not every walk needs to be a training session.
Not every outing needs to have an objective.

Those moments where your dog is free to express their natural behaviours are just as important as the time you spend teaching them.

Because behind every title, every ribbon and every perfectly trained behaviour is…a dog.

And sometimes, the very best thing we can do is step back, unclasp the lead (where it’s safe to do so), and let them simply be one. 🐾💙

🐄🐾 A look back at our Farmyard Team Trials…

Some fantastic memories from a brilliant day of searching, teamwork and happy dogs. 👃💙

A huge thank you to Dave Whiteley for capturing these wonderful moments for us. 📸

We hope you enjoy looking back through them as much as we have!
