👻 Throwback Thursday

Back in September 2021, we hosted our very first Sniffer Dog Team Trial!

Unlike the usual individual trials, teams are invited from different clubs across the UK to come and compete together.

We held the event at Gelli Aur Country Park, with search areas set around the rather impressive Gothic mansion. With its haunted tales and spooky atmosphere, it was the perfect setting for our haunted-themed trial!

Were you there back in 2021? We’d love to hear from you! 👻🐾

🕷️🎃 It’s Halloween Tournament Week at ClickStart!

We started early getting the scene ready…until Tina decided the giant spider needed killing! 😂

Not quite the help we had in mind, Tina!

📸🐾 UK Dog Sport - 18th October, Pen Y Banc

Some lovely moments from our UK Dog Sport competition on Sunday 18th October, this time through the lens of Caroline O’Hare of Paws in Focus Photography!

Caroline managed to capture some fantastic shots of the dogs and handlers in action, and it’s lovely to have these moments from the day to look back on!

She’s very kindly sent these over for us to share, so have a browse and see if you can spot yourself and your dog! Competitors are welcome to download, use and share the photos.

🙏 A little something in return…

Rather than charging for the photos, Caroline would really appreciate it if anyone who is able to could make a small donation to German Shepherd Rescue Elite.

Every penny goes directly towards helping the dogs in their care, and even a small contribution would be hugely appreciated.

You can donate here:

A big thank you to Caroline for taking the time to photograph the competition in between competing herself, and for sharing her work so generously!

Enjoy the photos, everyone! 📸🐾

A new face (and a rather magnificent nose!) joined us at Tracking Club yesterday!

A big welcome to Corey and young Theo the Bloodhound!

Bloodhounds are famous for their incredible sense of smell, so it’s fantastic to see Theo getting the opportunity to put those natural abilities to work.

Welcome to the club, Corey and Theo! 🐾

The competition might be over, but there’s still plenty of work to do behind the scenes! 😂

Luckily, Wendy’s granddaughter was on hand to help get everything packed away and back where it belongs 💪🐾

Training Isn’t Just for Puppies! 🐶

A lot of people understand the benefits of training their puppies, but what happens once they’ve learned the basics?

Training doesn’t have to stop once your dog can sit, stay and walk nicely on a lead!

And there’s some interesting research into the benefits of continuing to train our dogs throughout their lives.

A Danish study published in 2023 found that dogs who were trained more frequently tended to have fewer reported problems with fear, aggression and disobedience.

Another study published in 2025 found that dogs who had received training both early in life and during adolescence or adulthood were less likely to have reported fear or anxiety.

And it’s not all about obedience!

Research into scentwork has found that giving dogs opportunities to use their noses can have positive effects on their emotional wellbeing. One study even found that dogs who practised nosework became more ‘optimistic’ in a behavioural test!

Of course, these studies don’t mean that training guarantees a dog without any behavioural problems, but they do give us some great reasons to keep learning together.

Whether it’s Good Citizen training, scentwork, tracking or UK Dog Sport, there are so many ways to challenge your dog, develop new skills and enjoy spending time together.

And it’s such a joy when you find an activity that both you and your dog enjoy together!

After all, why should learning stop when puppy class finishes? 💙

• Does adolescent and adult training affect canine behavior problems? (2025)
