People often ask what the three young cockers are like.

The honest answer is that they’re completely different!

One likes to think things through before making a decision.

One launches into life at full speed and works everything else out afterwards.

And one is always looking for an alternative interpretation of what was asked.

Same breed, similar breeding, same environment… but three very different personalities!

It’s a good reminder that training isn’t about finding one method that works for every dog. It’s about understanding the dog in front of you and adapting accordingly.

And with cockers in particular, success often comes when you can convince them that what they’re doing was their idea all along!

The challenge is never trying to make them into the same dog. It’s understanding what motivates each one and bringing out the best in them.

That’s what keeps it interesting.

Happy Birthday Molly ❤️

This wonderful little girl turns 13 today 🎈🎈
Where have those years gone!!

My very first dog… and somehow she dragged me all the way to the Championships with her.

When Molly came along, I didn’t even know what quartering was. Over the years she taught me far more than I could ever have imagined. She was difficult enough to make me learn as a handler, but forgiving enough to let me fix the mistakes I made along the way.

Together we went from complete beginner to FTCh, she produced a FTCh and an OFTW, and in the process she shaped so much of how I now train and work dogs today.

Everything I now pass on to clients through training has roots back to lessons learnt with this little dog and her offspring — the importance of foundations, understanding the dog in front of you, consistency, patience, and keeping the work enjoyable.

For all the success, she’s still been the best little sofa buddy anyone could ask for 😘

Thank you for 13 unforgettable years, my little superstar.
